This study reviews earlier research on social innovation, energy transition, and circularity using the PRISMA technique. The study finds that implementing ESG practices requires social innovation, circularity, and energy transition. The study contributes by providing five cluster themes classification and potential future directions for firms and governments to pursue macro-level goals related to energy transition and circularity through social innovation.
It has been extensively debated how social innovation, circularity, and energy transition may all be considered environmental, social, and governance (ESG) components from a sustainability perspective. To comprehend the conceptual development of this subject in the academic literature, few studies, however, tackle the problems above by reviewing earlier research on the subject. By developing the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) technique, this study aims to address the current and anticipated advancements in social innovation, energy transition, and circularity. As a result, we create two metasynthesis analyses related to social innovation-energy transition and social innovation-circularity. In the first analysis, the three databases Web of Science, Scopus, and JSTOR had a total of 1767 studies and reports, and in the second analysis, we reviewed the work from a total of 466 studies and reports. We emphasize that implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices require social innovation, circularity, and energy transition. The study's key contributions are the five cluster themes classification for the two metasynthesis analyses, which point to potential future directions for both firms and governments to pursue some macro-level goals concerning energy transition and circularity through social innovation.

Xinfeng Jiang, Ahsan Akbar, Eglantina Hysa, Minhas Akbar

Summary: This study examines the relationship between environmental protection investment and enterprise innovation in Chinese listed firms. These insights are important for regulators, managers, and stakeholders.

Catalin Popescu, Eglantina Hysa, Mirela Panait, Arjona Cela

Summary: In recent decades, the impact of energy-related issues, such as energy poverty, energy transition, and energy security, has been widely discussed, especially after the Russia-Ukraine war. Few studies have reviewed earlier research to understand the conceptual development of this subject in the academic literature. Inspired by this interest and previous literature in this field, this study aimed to explore the past, present, and future advancements of critical issues in energy. Using the PRISMA method, the authors selected and analyzed review articles from databases such as Web of Science, Scopus, and JSTOR, resulting in a total of 2615 valid articles for analysis. The study's key contribution was the classification of cluster themes and the identification of potential future directions, emphasizing the role of governmental policies in addressing energy poverty, energy transition, and energy security in our daily lives.

Foreign divestment and domestic investment in Eastern European countries

Justice Gameli Djokoto, Eglantina Hysa, Egla Mansi

Summary: Divestment is an inevitable decision by businesses including multinationals. Its implication for domestic investment has not been investigated especially in Eastern European countries. We used data on 23 Eastern European countries from 1991 to 2019 to assess the effect of outward and inward foreign direct divestment on domestic investment. We found that both outward foreign direct investment and inward foreign direct investment as well as their corresponding divestments crowd out domestic investment. The impact of outward foreign direct investment and its divestment crowd out domestic investment more than the crowding out effect of inward foreign direct investment and its divestment. The results of this study call for efforts to attract and retain inward foreign direct investment. These should build the respective Eastern European economies to an extent that the outward foreign direct investment and their divestment will not impact domestic investment as much as has been found.
