The analysis of the burst rotational speeds of capillary valves on the centrifugal platform was conducted and a designing strategy for a robust sequential flow control was proposed. The maximum number of the capillary valves for a robust sequential flow control can be achieved by enlarging the process range of the burst rotational speed, which can be done by installing the capillary valves near the center of the disk. In addition, the variation of the burst rotational speed in each valve also needs to be considered. The designing strategy was used to carry out a six-valve sequential flow control on a 120 mm disk for conducting enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays on a centrifugal platform.
