Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant and its subvariants and lineages may lead to another COVID-19 wave in the world? -An overview of current evidence and counteracting strategies

Ranjit Sah, Mohammed Amir Rais, Aroop Mohanty, Hitesh Chopra, Deepak Chandran, Talha Bin Emran, Kuldeep Dhama

Summary: The highly contagious Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 has become a cause for concern during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It is classified as a variant of concern by the World Health Organization (WHO) and has spread faster than any other variant since its emergence in late 2021. Omicron is currently the only circulating VOC and its subvariant BA.5 is the most contagious and dominant globally. This article emphasizes the importance of effective vaccination and adherence to preventive measures in curbing the transmission of these variants.

Nanoparticle Polymers Influence on Cardiac Health: Good or Bad for Cardiac Physiology?

Manasa Kanithi, Lata Kumari, Keerthika Yalakaturi, Kavita Munjal, Santhoshkumar Jimitreddy, Mounika Kandamuri, Phanigreeshma Veeramachineni, Hitesh Chopra, Sunil Junapudi

Summary: Cardiovascular diseases are a major cause of death and morbidity worldwide. Nanoparticles and nanomaterials are increasingly being used as therapeutic and diagnostic modalities in the field of biomedicine. They can interact with the cardiovascular system in multiple ways, impacting cardiac physiology and cellular death. However, the use of nanoparticles can also lead to cardiotoxicity by increasing reactive oxidative species.

Dietary Supplementation with Resveratrol Attenuates Serum Melatonin Level, Pro-Inflammatory Response and Metabolic Disorder in Rats Fed High-Fructose High-Lipid Diet under Round-the-Clock Lighting

Yurii Frenkel, Valerii Cherno, Heorhii Kostenko, Hitesh Chopra, Rupesh K. K. Gautam, Vitalii Kostenko

Summary: This study investigates the impact of resveratrol on systemic inflammation and metabolic disorders in rats exposed to a high-fructose high-lipid diet (HFHLD) and round-the-clock lighting (RCL). The combined effect of HFHLD and RCL leads to decreased levels of melatonin and increased pro-inflammatory activities, oxidative stress, and metabolic disorder. Resveratrol mitigates these effects, leading to increased melatonin levels and reduced inflammation and metabolic disorder.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of chemically synthesized TiO2-NPs and green synthesized TiO2-NPs on the placenta and feto-maternal kidneys of rats. The results showed that chemical TiO2-NPs had detrimental effects on cells and caused adverse effects on blood biochemical profiles and tissue histology, while green TiO2-NPs showed no observed toxicity and had positive effects on blood biochemical profiles and tissue histology.
