This paper provides a summary of the preparation and properties of biochar nanocomposites, including their antimicrobial, antibacterial, and water treatment capabilities.
Biochar is the porous, carbon-rich charred organic matter produced from the carbonization of waste biomass. The novelty of biochar is enhanced substantially when it is reinforced with nanostructured materials. A concise study of the preparation, characterization and elaboration of antimicrobial properties of biochar nanocomposites is required for better understanding of readers. Although, few review articles are available regarding bionanocomposites (BNC), but the extensive discussion about properties of BNC is scanty in literature. Present review is focused on the simple source of biochar, preparation of biochar nanocomposites and study of different properties of BNC such as antimicrobial against E. coli and S. aureus, antibacterial activities, dye removal, water treatment (removal of oxytetracycline, heavy metal Pb and organic contaminant atrazine from water) and soil treatment. The relevant schemes and tables related to BNC are designed to explore new idea regarding the topic.
