Summary: In this study, a novel polysaccharide (CPP-1) was isolated from Chlorella pyrenoidosa and sulfated, showing potential as an anticoagulant. CPP-1 was mainly composed of D-mannopyranose, 3-O-methylated D-mannopyranose, and D-galactopyranose. The sulfated Chlorella mannogalactan (SCM) derived from CPP-1 demonstrated strong anticoagulant activity, making it a possible safer alternative to heparin-like drugs.

Summary: In this study, we conducted an in-depth investigation on a novel sulfated polysaccharide from green seaweed Codium geppiorum collected in the central coast of Vietnam. We determined its primary structure using NMR spectra and elucidated its conformation using small-angle X-ray scattering method. The results showed that the dominant structure of the polysaccharide is a linear sulfated galactan, which has a rodlike conformation in aqueous solution. The polysaccharide exhibited significant cytotoxic activity against three human cancer cell lines.

Summary: The SCP complex in marine alga Codium fragile has a similar structure to the major light-harvesting complexes in higher plants, LHC II, but with a reversed Chl a:Chl b ratio and accommodates different carotenoids. Fluorescence emission spectra and lifetimes were recorded from ensembles and single SCP complexes. Significant differences were observed in the data obtained from single SCP complexes as compared to ensemble complexes, which is attributed to different excitation intensities and suggests an aging process of SCP complexes during storage.

Summary: In this study, two degraded polysaccharides were obtained from Codium cylindricum by H2O2-Vc-ultrasonic and H2O2-Fe2+-ultrasonic treatment. The degraded polysaccharides retained similar functional groups and monosaccharide units as the original polysaccharides, but with different molar ratios. However, the molecular weight and morphological features were altered after degradation, leading to enhanced antioxidant activity, especially in polysaccharides with lower molecular weight.

Summary: This study comprehensively investigated the contamination and sources of metals in urban road dust in Jinan. The results showed that winter dust had higher contamination levels compared to spring dust, with cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, antimony, tin, and zinc as the main contaminants. Industrial and traffic sources were identified as the primary contributors to metal contamination, with coal burning emissions also playing a role in winter. Industrial emissions were found to pose higher health risks due to high chromium loading factor, while traffic emissions dominated metal contamination. The noncarcinogenic and carcinogenic risks of chromium in spring and winter for children were estimated through Monte Carlo simulations.

Summary: A Sn-modified Pt-based catalyst with non-acidic KY zeolite as support is obtained using atomic layer deposition, exhibiting superior aromatization ability and stability in converting n-octane into aromatics. The catalyst shows a high selectivity towards aromatics with n-octane conversion of 96.1%, surpassing previous reports. Sn modification induces the formation of electron-deficient Pt clusters, facilitating the activation of C-H bonds in n-octane and promoting the dehydrogenation process. The cooperative work of electron-deficient and electron-rich Pt species makes the Pt/KYSn(1) catalyst one of the most superior n-octane aromatization catalysts reported up till now.

Summary: Liver disease is a major cause of global mortality, and identifying biomarkers for diagnosing its progression is crucial for improving outcomes. Targeted mass spectrometry is a powerful tool for verifying biomarker candidates and clinical applications, particularly for glycoproteins translation. However, the limitation of analyzing only one sample per run has become apparent. In this study, a high-throughput intact N-glycopeptides quantification strategy was developed, allowing the validation of 20 samples per run with an average analysis time of 3 minutes per sample. The strategy was applied in a cohort of 461 serum samples and identified a panel of 10 IgG N-glycopeptides that have strong clinical utility in evaluating the severity of liver disease.
