Summary: MLR is independently associated with in-hospital mortality in CICU patients. Higher MLR quartiles are associated with increased in-hospital mortality. Patients with lower APACHE IV scores or fewer comorbidities have a higher risk of mortality with higher MLR. As MLR quartiles increase, length of CICU stay and hospital stay are prolonged.

Summary: This study identified a U-shaped relationship between plasma osmolarity and in-hospital mortality in CICU patients, with both hypoosmolarity and hyperosmolarity independently associated with increased risk of in-hospital mortality.

Summary: This study investigated the association between the lactate-to-albumin ratio (LAR) and in-hospital and ICU mortality in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). The results showed that a high LAR is associated with an increased risk of in-hospital and ICU mortality in ICH patients.

Summary: This study found that the geriatric nutrition risk index (GNRI) was able to predict the clinical outcomes of geriatric patients in the ICU. The results showed that a lower GNRI score was associated with increased hospital mortality.

Summary: This study examined racial disparities in meeting fracture care time-to-surgery benchmarks among older patients with hip fractures. The findings suggested that disparities exist at the hospital level, reflecting structural health systems issues, and patients who sought care from institutions with a higher proportion of racial or ethnic minority patients or who were uninsured were more likely to experience delays in surgery.

Summary: Predicting mortality among critically ill patients in resource limited settings is challenging. The study compared the predictive capacity of different clinical prediction tools and found that MEWS had the highest score, followed by R-MPM, qSOFA, and UVA, for predicting hospital mortality among adults in a medical-surgical ICU in rural Kenya.

Summary: The study found that platelet counts in ICU patients with infectious diseases showed different trends during the first 7 days after admission, with a rebound in survivors and a continuous decrease in non-survivors. A nadir platelet count below 130 x 10(9)/L was associated with higher ICU mortality.

Summary: Transfers between different ICUs are associated with mortality rate differences, with repatriated patients having the lowest risk. Patients transferred for capacity reasons show the highest mortality rates.

Summary: There is a non-linear relationship between serum magnesium and 28-day in-hospital all-cause mortality in the pediatric ICU. Both low and high serum magnesium levels can increase the risk of death. The optimal range of serum magnesium is 0.74-0.93 mmol/L when the risk of death is the lowest.

Summary: This study found that abnormal plasma osmolality in critically ill infants is independently associated with increased risk of in-hospital mortality. Both hypoosmolality and hyperosmolality are associated with poor prognosis.

Summary: This study found that ICU-acquired pneumonia caused by highly antimicrobial-resistant (HAMR) bacteria is associated with a significantly increased ICU mortality rate. The research also showed that patients with pneumonia caused by HAMR bacteria had longer ICU length of stay and mechanical ventilation duration.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between composite inflammatory indicators and ICU mortality in ICU patients with CHD, and develop a predictive model. The results showed a significant association between various inflammatory indicators and ICU mortality in ICU patients with CHD.

Summary: In a study of COVID-19 patients in the ICU, the use of remdesivir with corticosteroids was found to have a positive impact on survival, particularly when used within 9 days. However, there was no significant association with mortality when the interval exceeded 10 days.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed data from 1,442 ICU patients with GIB and identified nine independent predictors to establish a predictive model for in-hospital mortality. The model showed excellent predictive value and may be a valuable tool in clinical practice.
