Summary: This study analyzed pancreatectomy cases between 2016 and 2021 and found that using Caprini guideline indicated VTE prophylaxis led to a significant reduction in VTE complications without increasing bleeding complications. The study emphasizes the need for standardization in VTE risk assessment and prevention measures to reduce preventable VTE complications and associated morbidity and mortality.

Summary: The risk of venous thromboembolism is low to moderate in nonmajor orthopedic surgery, with inconclusive literature and new emerging data available. Global patient risk must be considered to determine the need for prophylaxis.

Summary: This study summarized the incidence, risk factors, diagnosis methods, prophylaxis methods, and treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE) following arthroscopic shoulder surgery. The incidence of VTE after arthroscopic shoulder surgeries is relatively low, and current evidence shows that chemical prophylaxis did not deliver significant benefits. CT/CTA and ultrasound were the mainstream diagnosis methods for PE and DVT, respectively. High-quality studies focusing on the prophylaxis and management of VTE population undergoing arthroscopic shoulder surgeries should be done in the future.

Summary: This study found that 4.36% of patients undergoing soft tissue sarcoma surgery developed venous thromboembolism (VTE), with significant risk factors including pre-operative and post-operative partial thromboplastin time (PTT), post-op chemotherapy, metastasis at diagnosis, additional surgery for metastasis or local recurrence, and tumor size larger than 10 cm. The use of prophylaxis medications increased the risk of wound complications and infection. Therefore, there is a need for further research to establish risk factors and guidelines for prophylactic treatment of VTE in patients undergoing soft tissue sarcoma surgery.

Summary: This study found that higher levels of dietary diversity, including count, evenness, and quality, might be protective factors against depressive symptoms, especially in females and elders. The recommended scores for assessing dietary diversity are 4, 0.3, and 51 for DDS, HFDI, and HEI, respectively.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the compliance of venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis after non-operative traumatic brain injury (TBI), and the reasons for deviation. The study found that the overall compliance rate was 52.2%, with compliance rates of 51.4% in the low-risk subgroup and 55.1% in the moderate-risk subgroup. The most common reasons for non-compliance were a stay of less than 48 hours in the low-risk subgroup, and starting prophylaxis before the recommended time frame in the moderate-risk subgroup.

Summary: This study aimed to compare rates of venous thromboembolism (VTE) and postpancreatectomy hemorrhage (PPH) in patients with pancreatic or periampullary malignancy before and after the implementation of routine extended VTE prophylaxis. The results showed that extended VTE prophylaxis did not significantly affect the rates of postdischarge VTE and PPH. These findings suggest that extended VTE prophylaxis may not be necessary for all patients undergoing pancreatectomy.

Summary: There is currently no consensus on perioperative VTE prophylaxis for spine surgery patients. A study using national data found that aspirin and regular heparin were associated with increased odds of blood transfusion, but all three anticoagulants had similar incidence of VTE and hematoma. Consideration of subgroup-specific VTE risks may help identify patients who could benefit most from thromboprophylaxis.

Summary: This study investigated the compliance with non-pharmacological preventive practice of venous thromboembolism guidelines among Jordanian intensive care and medical and surgical nurses. The results showed that the majority of nurses had insufficient compliance, highlighting the need for policymakers to develop initiatives to improve nurses' compliance.

Summary: The issue of preventing thromboembolism in plastic surgery is controversial, with surgeons hesitating to adopt chemoprophylaxis due to fear of increased bleeding. The lack of high-level evidence in plastic surgery literature for VTE prophylaxis highlights the need for an international guideline based on validated risk assessment models to integrate surgical and patient-related risks.

Summary: Based on a web-based survey, researchers found significant variability in venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis practices among metabolic/bariatric surgeons, possibly due to limited available evidence. Controversy still exists regarding the ideal methods, dosage, and duration of VTE prophylaxis after metabolic/bariatric surgery. Large prospective clinical trials are necessary to establish optimal practices for risk stratification and prophylaxis of VTE in bariatric surgery patients.

Summary: Based on a retrospective cohort study, this research investigated the effectiveness of eVTEp on pdVTE rates. The results showed that pdVTE was associated with eVTEp and LOS of 5 days or more, but not with other VTE risk factors. Therefore, the current guidelines for eVTEp should include LOS of more than 5 days in the selection criteria.

Summary: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in New Delhi has established a nationwide registry called the 'Indian Registry for Venous Thromboembolism Disorder (i-RegVeD)' to analyze real-time sociodemographic profile, disease patterns, management strategies, treatment choices, and outcomes of patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE) in order to gather evidence and fill knowledge gaps about the disease across different demographic regions. This hospital-based registry will collect data on VTE occurrence and characteristics from 16 hospital sites throughout India and the results will be disseminated publicly on a study website as well as through scientific meetings and publications.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the occurrence and risk factors of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in post-radical prostatectomy patients. It was found that the overall incidence of VTE in post-RP patients is 1%, and minimally invasive procedures and RP without pelvic lymph node dissection are associated with a lower risk of developing VTE. Additional pharmacological prophylaxis may not be necessary in all cases and should be considered in high-risk patients only.
