Nanotechnology has a wide range of applications in agriculture, and zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) have been found to improve the growth and yield of wheat under salt stress conditions.
Nanotechnology has a wide range of applications. Nanotechnology refers to the particle in nanoscale used to improve agricultural productivity and to encounter the unsolved problems conventionally. Nanostructured formulation through mechanisms, such as targeted delivery or slow/controlled release mechanisms as well as conditional release, could release their active ingredients in response to the environmental conditions and biological demands more precisely. Nanotechnology has a great potential for achieving sustainable agriculture, especially in developing countries. Salinity is among the major abiotic stresses which limits the yield and quality of global crops. Zinc (Zn) is a vital micronutrient that is mandatory for the ideal growth of plants and has proved to reduce the hazardous effects of salt stress. To counter the salinity problem, a pot experiment was conducted at wire house of the Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences (ISES), University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan, to observe the effects of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs) on wheat variety Gemmieza imported from Egypt under salt stress. Notably, 10 dS m(-1) salinity was developed artificially, and different doses of Zn conventional fertilizer and ZnO NPs were applied to potted wheat. ZnO NPs (0.12 g pot(-1)) significantly increased the physical parameters of wheat compared to control under salt stress. Application of ZnO NPs (0.12 g pot(-1)) significantly increased chlorophyll A and B contents by 24.6 and 10%, plant height at vegetative and maturity stages by 34.6 and 37.4%, shoot and spike lengths by 30.7 and 27.6%, root fresh and dry weights by 74.5 and 63.1%, and wheat grain yield by 42.2%, respectively. ZnO NPs performed better compared to Zn conventional fertilizer under salt stress and could be used in place of Zn conventional fertilizer in salt-affected soils for attaining better crop production.

Summary: The study found that Bacillus sp. PM31 has tolerance capacity and positive impacts on the growth, physiological, and molecular responses of maize under salinity stress. This bacterium can improve agro-morphological traits, chlorophyll content, antioxidant capacity, etc. Additionally, Bacillus sp. PM31 enhances salt tolerance by upregulating stress-related genes. These findings suggest that Bacillus sp. PM31 plays a crucial role in reducing salinity stress and can be an alternative approach to boost crop production and yield.

Summary: Soil salinization is a significant issue caused by climate change and rising sea levels. A pot experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of potassium nitrate (KNO3) on two genotypes of Raphanus sativus L. under salt stress. The results showed that salinity stress significantly reduced various growth parameters and increased oxidative stress markers, but exogenous application of KNO3 alleviated these effects and improved the antioxidant potential system. The study provides important theoretical knowledge for understanding the physiological and biochemical mechanisms of salt tolerance in Raphanus sativus L. genotypes.

Summary: This study explored the performance of a wastewater treatment facility by using microorganisms and microalgae Chlorella vulgaris in combination with sequencing batch reactors (SBRs). The influence of pH, temperature, CODinlet, and air flowrate on COD removal rate and residual was investigated. Optimized conditions achieved a residual COD concentration of 36 mg/l with a pH of 8, CODinlet of 600 mg/l, and an airflow rate of 55 l/min. Additionally, empirical correlations for double-factorial optimization and a multilayer perceptron artificial neural network for residual COD prediction were proposed, demonstrating high accuracy with a correlation coefficient (R-2) of 0.98 and mean absolute error (MAE) of 2%.

Summary: The aim of this study is to establish a more efficient and reliable method for the bio-fabrication of pure SnO2 and SnO2-doped graphene oxide nanocomposites using a green chelating agent called Moringa Oleifera extract by sol-gel method. XRD studies showed that the sintered SnO2-doped GO nanocomposite exhibited increased crystallinity and size with increasing temperature. FTIR investigation revealed distinct bands in the SnO2-doped GO nanocomposite due to terminal oxygen vibrations, and the samples treated with G-O-Sn-O exhibited bands due to antisymmetric stretching. SEM and EDAX analysis clearly observed the size and morphology of SnO2-doped GO nanocomposites. The optical bandgap of SnO2-doped GO nanostructures was calculated to be 4.48 eV. It has been demonstrated that SnO2-doped GO nanocomposite can be used as an organic photocatalyst against organic pollutants methyl orange (MO) dye.
