Photodynamic therapy (PDT) employs light activation of tissue-localized photosensitizer in an oxygen-dependent process which initiates oxidative stress, inflammation, and cell death. There are many indications for PDT, although the main ones are still non-melanoma skin cancers. The light sources used include coherent and non-coherent ones, but we would like to focus on the use of light-emitting diodes (LED) in PDT. We present four patients with skin lesions successfully treated with LED-based photodynamic therapy. The main advantage of that source is narrow emission spectrum that can correspond well with maximum absorption photosensitizers. Also, using LED source seems to be cheaper and simpler, and the field of irradiation is larger. The data showed good clinical and cosmetic outcome of LED-based PDT in actinic keratosis, basal cell carcinoma, and Bowen's disease. Since these diseases often appear on sun-exposed skin, aesthetic results are very important. The effect of LED treatment is as good or in some data even better than those in older types of PDT.

Comparison of hair reduction by intensive pulsed light device and combined intense pulsed light with a bipolar radiofrequency

Anna Erkiert-Polguj, Barbara Algiert-Zielinska, Janusz Skubalski, Helena Rotsztejn

Summary: The study indicated that using the IPL system alone and combining it with RF yielded similar results in hair reduction, but the combined treatment was more effective in long-term observations. These therapies were found to be safe, effective, and comfortable for patients with skin phototypes II or III.

Effect of oxybrasion on selected skin parameters

Sylwia Jarzabek, Helena Rotsztejn

Summary: The study involved 27 female subjects who received five oxygen microdermabrasion treatments every 2 weeks. Measurements of skin parameters were taken before and 2 weeks after the last treatment, with measurement points on the forehead, cheek, and nose petal. Results showed that oxybrasion treatments increase skin hydration and have a significant influence on the decrease of the skin hydrolipid coat and pH.

The eye area as the most difficult area of activity for esthetic treatment

Anna Kolodziejczak, Helena Rotsztejn

Summary: The eye area is of great importance in esthetic dermatology and difficult to treat. Skillful treatment can greatly improve the quality of life for patients. This study aims to present different changes in the eye area and factors that affect their appearance and intensity. Treatment methods for various eye area problems are also discussed. Proper diagnosis requires understanding the skin structure and its disorders. Many people simplify eye area problems to shadows, swelling, and wrinkles, and only focus on one form of therapy. However, as shown in this review, there are a variety of defects. Treating eye area problems requires a systematic and multi-specialist approach.

A Subjective and Objective Assessment of Combined Methods of Applying Chemical Peels and Microneedling in Antiaging Treatments

Agata Markiewicz-Tomczyk, Elzbieta Budzisz, Anna Erkiert-Polguj

Summary: Combined methods of applying chemical peels and antioxidants with microneedle mesotherapy showed promising results for skin rejuvenation in a study involving 20 female volunteers. The use of a 40% vitamin C solution with microneedling and a 10% vitamin C solution without microneedling, in addition to azelaic acid, significantly improved hydration, skin elasticity, and reduced melanin and erythema index. The combination of active ingredients and delivery techniques has great potential to enhance cosmetic preparations' effectiveness in multiple ways.
