Summary: Highly water soluble Zn(II)Pcs with twelve quaternizable pyridinium groups were designed using pentaerythritol hub. Peripheral and non-peripheral tetra-2,2,2-tris[(pyridin-2-ylthio)methyl]ethoxy-substituted neutral Zn(II)Pcs (4 and 5) were synthesized first, followed by quaternizations of twelve pyridine groups to obtain highly water soluble Zn(II)Pcs (6 and 7). The branched nature of substituted groups prevented aggregation and increased dissolution. The photophysical, photochemical, singlet oxygen-producing properties, and DNA binding behaviors of quaternized Zn(II)Pcs were studied.

Summary: The study synthesized three new water-soluble porphyrin-modified copper(II) complexes, which showed strong binding performance to cancer cells, especially Cu-P1. In anticancer tests, Cu-P1 exhibited the best activity against lung cancer cells H1975 and showed lesser cytotoxicity to breast cancer cells. Flow cytometry and DFT calculations further supported the biological activities of these copper(II) complexes against malignancy cells.

Summary: The DNA binding capacity and cytotoxic effects of two cycloplatinated complexes (C1 and C2) were evaluated. Both complexes exhibited high DNA binding affinity and were able to quench the fluorescence of ethidium bromide. They also induced DNA viscosity increase, confirming their intercalative interactions with DNA. C2 showed the highest cytotoxicity, particularly on a cisplatin resistant-cell line, and induced apoptosis comparable or higher than cisplatin in all cell lines.

Summary: A new conjugate called mithplatin, which combines the anticancer drug mithramycin with a reactive Pt(II) bearing moiety, has been developed to combat Pt-resistant ovarian cancers. This conjugate showed higher potency than cisplatin and was effective against both Pt-sensitive and Pt-resistant ovarian cancer cells.

Summary: This article investigates the synthesis, characterization, and biological activity of novel square-planar cationic platinum(II) complexes, comparing them with corresponding five-coordinate complexes bearing the same triazole ligands. The results show that the square-planar species exhibit greater stability and certain selectivity compared to the five-coordinate ones.

Summary: This study reports on a group of planar cobalt(II), nickel(II), and copper(II) hydroxo clusters with definite compositions that are soluble in water. The peripheral of each metal hydroxo cluster plane is chemically protected to prevent further hydrolysis. The structures of these clusters are relevant to the surface structures of cobalt phosphate and nickel borate oxygen-evolution catalysts.

Summary: A new octahedral platinum complex [PtLCl4] of Schiff base ligand containing pyrimidine and morpholine skeleton was synthesized and characterized. The compound exhibited interaction with DNA and BSA through electrostatic interactions and static quenching, respectively. The platinum complex showed promising anticancer activity against various cancer cell lines, while also demonstrating good radical scavenging and antimicrobial abilities.

Summary: This study investigated the complexes formed by two pyrazolone-based hydrazones with Zn(II) and Cu(II) acceptors, and evaluated their activity against Trypanosoma brucei parasites and Balb3T3 cells. The Zn(II) complexes showed high selectivity and potent activity against T. brucei, suggesting their potential as antiparasitic agents.

Summary: In this study, two novel water-soluble zinc(II) phthalocyanines were synthesized and studied for their potential applications in photodynamic therapy. The interaction between these compounds and BSA or ct-DNA was investigated, with differences in binding constants observed between the two compounds. Thermal denaturation and viscosity studies indicated a non-intercalative mode of binding to ct-DNA for both compounds.

Summary: Using MS proteomics strategy, this study uncovered the complex regulation of gene expression by PDS in HeLa cancer cells, and also revealed the impact of PDS on cell cycle regulation. Furthermore, the downregulation of PC4 was found to enhance the cytotoxicity of a platinum anticancer drug towards HeLa cells.

Summary: In this study, the synthesis and single crystal X-ray structure of Cu(II)-picolinic acid complex, 1 as a potent topoisomerase I inhibitor was reported. Biochemical studies revealed the complex's higher binding propensity towards tRNA, significant inhibitory effect on enzyme catalytic activity, and strong antimicrobial potential. Additionally, DFT and molecular docking studies provided insights into electronic transitions and specific binding preferences at the target site.

Summary: Sodium4-hydroxy-3-([2-picolinoylhydrazineylidene]methyl)benzenesulfonate (NaH2PH) was synthesized as a novel water-soluble ligand, and its complexes with Co (II), Fe (III), Hg (II), and Pd (II) were characterized. The ligand's behavior as a tetradentate or tridentate ligand in different metal complexes was studied. The thermal fragmentation and redox behavior of the complexes were investigated, and the biological activities of the ligand and its metal complexes were evaluated.
