Summary: The thermal elongation of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation for high-voltage cables is influenced by both the cross-linking degree and thermo-oxidative aging during testing. Antioxidants can inhibit the aging effect and improve the thermal elongation properties. The evaluation of XLPE insulation performance should consider the synergistic effect of network structure and antioxidation performance.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of three different voltage stabilizers on the insulation properties of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). The results show that the addition of the voltage stabilizers enhances the DC resistivity and DC breakdown strength of the XLPE, which also inhibits the accumulation of space charges in the XLPE.

Summary: By grafting a voltage stabilizer onto the molecular chains of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), the insulation properties of the material can be effectively improved. Physicochemical and dielectric tests were conducted on four different samples, and the results showed successful grafting of m-aminobenzoic acid onto the XLPE molecular chain. The grafted voltage stabilizer had minimal impact on the gel content and thermal properties of XLPE, but increased crystallinity while decreasing lamella thickness. Moreover, the XLPE grafted with a voltage stabilizer exhibited lower DC electrical conductivity, less aggregation of space charge, and higher DC breakdown strength, leading to enhanced material properties.

Summary: The study aims to investigate the effects of thermal ageing on electrical treeing initiation and growth behaviors in XLPE cables. Accelerated thermal samples were used for the treeing tests, and analysis techniques including DSC and FTIR were applied to study the changes in microstructures. The results show that the thermal ageing process can be divided into three phases, with re-crystallization being the main factor for the increase in average electrical tree initiation voltage (AETIV).

Summary: This article focuses on the investigation of the effects of axial heat transmission on space charge and electric field distributions in HVdc cables. A case study involving a cable partially immersed in water and part in air was simulated using a 2-D thermal and electrical model in time domain. The results show the establishment of an electric field peak near the water-air interface due to increased temperature drop over the insulation in this area. The study attempts to improve understanding of the relationship between thermal and electrical phenomena in HVdc cables, emphasizing the importance of considering the impact of axial heat transfer in thermal rating standards for HVdc cables.

Summary: Accurate measurement of space charge is crucial in evaluating cables for high-voltage DC systems. This study utilized advanced analysis technologies, including time-domain deconvolution, to accurately estimate electric fields. Through the application of pulse electroacoustic method on a 66 kV-class cable, waveform analysis was conducted to reproduce the electric field distribution. The statistical analysis showed that, even with optimized deconvolution parameters, the estimation accuracy was -0.3% +/- 19.9% with a 95.4% confidence interval under a DC voltage of 30 kV.
