Summary: In this study, PVDF membranes with enhanced mechanical strength, water flux, and electrical conductivity were prepared using conductive knitted fabrics as the supporting matrix. The composite membranes exhibited higher tensile strength and water flux compared to PVDF membranes. This research highlights the potential of developing reinforced hydrophobic membranes using conductive knitted fabric.

Summary: Electro-activated shape memory polymer composites (SMPCs) are developed by adding conductive nanoparticles and fibers into shape memory polymeric matrix. A knitted-net shape memory tubular composite with lightweight and fast shape recovery properties is studied. The results show high shape fixity ratio, shape recovery ratio, recoverable compressive strain, and short shape recovery time.

Summary: This study explored the tensile properties of biaxial single jersey knitted (BSJK)-reinforced composites using experimental and numerical approaches. The composite samples were prepared by injecting polyester resin into the produced knitted fabric, and then subjected to tensile tests in the course and wale directions. The findings revealed that the produced BSJK-reinforced composite exhibited excellent in-plane tensile characteristics, and the developed geometric equations adequately predicted the tensile behavior.

Summary: This paper aims to create a mathematical model for the geometry of weft-knitted spacer fabrics for numerical analysis of sandwich composites. A novel approach was proposed to simulate the matrix of the sandwich composite, resulting in a maximum error of 4.04% in geometry prediction and 4.2% in compression modulus. The study revealed that the pile yarns play a key role in the compressional behavior of sandwich structures reinforced with spacer fabrics.

Summary: The seismic performance of the H-shaped steel upper column-RC beam-SRC lower column joint was investigated, and experimental and numerical methods were used. The study showed the significant influence of axial compression ratio and steel size on the performance of the S-RC-SRC composite joint. The research proposed a theoretical method for evaluating the flexural bearing capacity of the joint, with a maximum deviation of 3.5%.

Summary: A new anisotropic visco-hyperelastic constitutive model has been developed for predicting the time-dependent deformation response of flexible, knitted fabric-reinforced elastomer composites. This model incorporates the architecture of knitted fabrics and the hyper-viscoelastic behavior of elastomers using an invariant-based strain energy density function. The model is implemented in a commercial Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software and can aid in the design of knitting patterns for desired mechanical properties.

Summary: In this study, a three-dimensional damage analysis framework based on the finite element method was proposed to predict the damage evolution and load-bearing capacity of fiber-reinforced composites. The framework accounted for stress interaction, coupling effect, and addressed the issue of finite element mesh dependency.

Summary: This study focused on 3D finite element modeling of weft-knitted carbon fiber thermoplastic composites to understand their nonlinear mechanical behavior and interface damage mechanisms. The importance of fiber tow/matrix interfacial strength on tensile performance was highlighted, and it was found that pre-stretching the fabric before manufacturing can substantially increase tensile stiffness.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanical behaviors of 3D printed FRCC beams with different reinforcement methods, showing that with proper reinforcement, these beams could have comparable or even higher load-bearing capacity than conventional steel reinforced FRCC beams, but lower post-peak ductility due to interlayer shear crack initiation. Finite element models were proposed to simulate flexural behaviors, revealing that 3D printed FRCC beams have slightly higher flexural bearing capacity compared to conventional cast-in-situ FRCC beams.

Summary: Warp-knitted spacer fabrics with multi-layers are highly promising materials for structural uses. A study on the compressive properties of these fabrics found that the compressive stiffness increases with the number of layers, and that the stress is mainly borne by the spacer monofilaments.

Summary: Due to their superior strength-to-weight ratio, composite materials are preferred over conventional ones, but machining them is a challenge due to their extreme heterogeneity. Drilling is a primary process during assembly, and researchers have optimized process parameters to improve drilling quality on composites. With the availability of high-performance computing, numerical simulation of the drilling process has gained attention. This comprehensive review focuses on numerical modeling using finite element analysis for polymer composites, considering various factors like material, tool geometry, speed/feed, and temperature.
