Summary: The diagnosis, management, and treatment of acromegaly heavily rely on the levels of serum IGF-1, basal GH, and nadir GH following OGTT. However, these hormone concentrations can be influenced by various factors, leading to discordant levels that may require additional monitoring and data. New standards for GH and IGF-1 provide more accurate tools, but limitations should be considered along with clinical history and imaging studies when evaluating patients with acromegaly.

Summary: A study based on a multicenter registry found that there was no significant difference in the long-term risk of recurrent VTE among patients with different severities of PE at initial diagnosis beyond 3 months, although patients with massive PE were more likely to develop severe recurrent PE events.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to determine the clinical characteristics, disease course, therapeutic outcomes, and prognostic factors for pediatric patients with blepharokeratoconjunctivitis (BKC). A retrospective medical chart review was conducted for patients aged 15 years or younger diagnosed with BKC between 2004 and 2020. The study found that treatment achieved disease remission in 95% of children with BKC, but 52.6% experienced recurrence, highlighting the need for careful observation and prompt management for vision preservation.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the biochemical-clinical characteristics of patients with primary hypertriglyceridemia in Mexico and investigate the variants in APOA5, GPIHBP1, LMF1, and LPL genes. The main findings include hypoalphalipoproteinemia, pancreatitis, and a median triglyceride value of 773.9 mg/dL in the patients. A total of 74 variants were found, of which 15 could be involved in the development of primary hypertriglyceridemia. A Mexican patient with hyperchylomicronemia syndrome due to GPIHBP1 deficiency was also reported.

Summary: The clinical spectrum of CBS deficiency varies widely, with different levels of pyridoxine responsiveness associated with varying disease manifestations and outcomes. Age at diagnosis, age of onset, and treatment effectiveness are influenced by pyridoxine responsiveness. Standardized responsiveness tests and critical evaluation of past assessments are essential for preventing long-term complications in CBS deficiency patients.

Summary: Family-focused therapy (FFT) is associated with longer intervals between mood episodes and reductions in suicidal ideation among adolescents at risk for bipolar disorders. Therapeutic alliance between adolescents/parents and their therapists is correlated with symptomatic outcomes of adolescents over 18 weeks. Enhancing adolescents' engagement in therapy may strengthen the long-term effects of family interventions.

Summary: The aim of this study was to describe the clinical characteristics and outcomes of Mexican patients with Behcet syndrome (BS) from a single center. The study included patients with established BS diagnosis followed up in a tertiary care center in Mexico City. The results showed a predominance of female sex, joint involvement as the most frequent phenotype, frequent relapses, and favorable outcomes in this cohort of Mexican patients with BS. Differences in comorbidities and clinical manifestations were identified according to sex.

Summary: Mixed-phenotype acute leukemia (MPAL) is a heterogeneous group of leukemias with diverse genetic, immunophenotypic, and clinical characteristics. The diagnosis and treatment of MPAL are challenging due to its rarity. Recent collaborative efforts have provided insights into the complex genomic landscape of MPAL, but further prospective studies and targeted therapies based on genetics and immunophenotype are needed.

Summary: This study described the baseline characteristics, continuation of baricitinib treatment, and disease activity over time in patients initiating treatment with baricitinib in a real-world rheumatology setting in the UK. The results showed that a high proportion of patients continued with baricitinib treatment at both 6 and 12 months, and disease activity was lower than baseline at these timepoints.

Summary: Neonatal candidemia is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. This study found that Candida albicans was the most common pathogen, with an overall susceptibility to fluconazole of 81.3%. Delayed catheter removal, septic shock, and multiple chronic comorbidities were independently associated with in-hospital mortality.

Summary: This review evaluates the biological processes underlying malignant transformation and their relevance to the development of pituitary adenomas. It addresses various processes such as genome instability, epigenetic reprogramming, angiogenesis, proliferative signals, immune evasion, and inflammation in relation to pituitary tumors. Additionally, it discusses the existence of oncogene-induced senescence in these tumors. Understanding these processes can provide insights into the resistance of pituitary tumors to malignant transformation and contribute to the development of novel anticancer treatments.

Summary: National registries are valuable tools to investigate rare conditions like acromegaly, providing insights into epidemiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment outcomes, and mortality. While single-center studies are more homogeneous, they are often limited by small sample sizes and lack statistical power.
