The response of small and medium-sized enterprises to potential water risks: an eco-cluster approach

This paper investigates the perception of mangers of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in undertaking collaborative forms to overcome the weaknesses faced by individual SMEs in an attempt to tackle production and operational risks associated with water issues. It particularly examines the effect of water related problems on the operations of SMEs mainly as a result of excessive and sudden environmental changes (e.g. droughts and floods) and strict public policy requirements (e.g. the Clean Water Act). Current literature examines these reasons at an individual firm level and mainly for large firms. To fill this gap, this paper focuses on examining these issues in SMEs. A case study was conducted on a sample of 10 SMEs located in Northern Greece and operating in the food industry in-order to examine the perceptions of managers/owners of SMEs regarding the suitability of collaborative forms to face potential water risks. The findings showed that despite the low awareness of managers/owners of SMEs concerning the effects of water risks on their operations, they considered collaboration between SMEs as a good tool for eliminating water risks and gaining financial benefits. Summary: The empirical study explores the impact of socioeconomic characteristics on the circular economy, revealing positive effects from factors such as economic wealth, fertility rate, environmental taxes, and R&D expenditures on materials recycling and circularity rates in the EU. Urbanization also has a positive but nonlinear effect on recycling and circularity rates. These findings can be valuable for policymakers and managers looking to implement policies to increase recycling and circularity in the EU and beyond.

The role of entrepreneurship, innovation and socioeconomic development on circularity rate: Empirical evidence from selected European countries

Summary: This study analyzes the relationship between entrepreneurship, innovation, socio-economic development, and circularity progress in the European Union countries. The empirical findings suggest that entrepreneurship, innovation, and socio-economic development significantly affect the circularity rate, while polluting entrepreneurship has a negative association with circularity. Research and development and economic growth also have positive impacts on circularity, and the human development index is important in the circularity process.

Green, resilient, agile, and sustainable fresh food supply chain enablers: evidence from India

Summary: This study proposes a methodological framework to evaluate the sustainability of fresh food supply chains (FFSC) from the perspective of GRAS enablers. Through a mixed-method sequential approach, the study identifies twenty supply chain sustainability (SCS) enablers and finds that the firms' 'organization culture' is the most powerful driver towards sustainability in FFSC, followed by 'environmental certification program' and 'financial strength'. This research provides valuable insights for managers/policymakers in the Indian FFSC to focus on the most significant SCS enablers and work towards their successful implementation.

Disaggregated energy use and socioeconomic sustainability within OECD countries

Summary: This study examines the relationship between disaggregated energy use, human development, trade openness, economic growth, urbanization, and sustainability index in OECD countries from 2014 to 2019. The study employs static, quantile, and dynamic panel data approaches. The findings indicate that fossil fuels have a negative impact on sustainability, while alternative energy sources contribute positively to sustainable socioeconomic development. It is noteworthy that alternative energy sources have a strong influence on socioeconomic sustainability in different quantiles. Additionally, human development index and trade openness enhance sustainability, while urbanization poses challenges in achieving sustainability goals within OECD countries. Policymakers should prioritize mitigating fossil fuels and urbanization and promoting human development, trade openness, and alternative energy sources in order to achieve sustainable development.

Global online networking for circular economy companies in fashion, apparel, and textiles industries, the LinkedIn platform

Summary: This article discusses the application of circular economy principles in the apparel, fashion, and textiles industry sectors from a social media perspective. The study is based on data retrieved from 471 companies' LinkedIn profiles worldwide, with a focus on recycling, repairing, reusing, regenerating, renting, and reselling as the most important strategies and activities reported. The approach used in this study can also be applied in the future to monitor the progress of the sector.

A Conceptual Framework for Economic Analysis of Different Law Enforcement Drones

'Made in Germany' how companies approach Circular Economy on LinkedIn

Summary: This study discusses the relevance of circular economy (CE) in Germany based on readily available LinkedIn data. LinkedIn company profiles in Germany with 'circular economy' in their description or any other field were analyzed. A total of 514 German companies belonging to 15 regions were analyzed. The study provides insights into the increasing relevance and trends of the circular economy in German enterprises and highlights the potential of using readily available data from LinkedIn for further national studies.

Exploring the Effect of Environmental Programs on Primary School Pupils' Knowledge and Connectedness Toward Nature

Relative evaluation of probabilistic methods for spatio-temporal wind forecasting

Comparison of ethane recovery processes for lean gas based on a coupled model

Summary: This study analyzes the characteristics of process parameters in three lean gas ethane recovery processes and establishes a prediction and multiobjective optimization model for ethane recovery and system energy consumption. A new method for comparing ethane recovery processes for lean gas is proposed, and the addition of extra coolers improves the ethane recovery. The support vector regression model based on grey wolf optimization demonstrates the highest prediction accuracy, and the multiobjective multiverse optimization algorithm shows the best optimization performance and diversity in the solutions.

A novel deep-learning framework for short-term prediction of cooling load in public buildings

Summary: The paper proposes a novel deep learning-based prediction framework, aTCN-LSTM, for accurate cooling load predictions. The framework utilizes a gate-controlled multi-head temporal convolutional network and a sparse probabilistic self-attention mechanism with a bidirectional long short-term memory network to capture both temporal and long-term dependencies in the cooling load sequences. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method, which can serve as an effective guide for HVAC chiller scheduling and demand management initiatives.

The impact of social interaction and information acquisition on the adoption of soil and water conservation technology by farmers: Evidence from the Loess Plateau, China

Summary: This study uses survey data from the Loess Plateau in China to evaluate the impact of social interaction on the adoption of soil and water conservation (SWC) technology by farmers. The positive impact of social interaction on SWC adoption is more pronounced for farmers in larger villages and those who join cooperative societies.
