In this study, barium-substituted tricalcium phosphates were prepared using mechano chemical activation and precipitation methods. The phase composition, specific surface area, and sinterability of the synthesized compounds were determined. The ceramic samples obtained through sintering exhibited good mechanical properties and microstructure, and were found to be non-cytotoxic, making them suitable for reconstructive bone tissue surgery.
Barium-substituted tricalcium phosphates containing 0.43 and 4.28 wt % barium have been prepared via mechano chemical activation and precipitation from aqueous solutions, followed by calcination. We have determined the phase composition of the synthesized compounds and the specific surface area of the powders and evaluated their sinterability. The synthesized powders were sintered at temperatures of 1100, 1150, and 1200 degrees C to give ceramic samples. We studied linear shrinkage of the samples during sintering, determined the bending strength of the ceramics, and examined their microstructure. The biological properties of the ceramics were studied in vitro using mesenchymal stem cells isolated from tooth pulp. The results demonstrate that the ceramics are not cytotoxic and can be used in reconstructive bone tissue surgery.
