Summary: This study investigated the compositions and antifungal and antibiofilm properties of Cymbopogon citratus and Cymbopogon proximus essential oils. Both oils showed antifungal and antibiofilm activities against yeast species, with C. citratus oil exhibiting higher activity. Both oils also exhibited high antioxidant activity. These findings suggest that C. citratus and C. proximus essential oils could be potential sources for antifungal, antibiofilm, and antioxidant drugs.

Summary: In this study, the antifungal and antibiofilm potential of fifty essential oils (EOs) on three Candida species were evaluated. The EOs from Lippia alba and L. origanoides exhibited the highest antifungal activity against C. auris and showed antifungal and antibiofilm activity against all three Candida species.

Summary: This study investigated the antifungal and antiaflatoxinogenic activities of essential oils from different species of Cymbopogon plants. The results showed that these essential oils exhibited inhibitory activities against Aspergillus species and could also inhibit the synthesis of aflatoxins. Combinations of different essential oils showed synergistic effects, and some combinations were able to completely inhibit the production of aflatoxins.

Summary: The extracts of five invasive plants were investigated for their antifungal and antibiofilm activities against various Candida species. The study found that the ethanol and ethanol-water extracts of Reynoutria japonica leaves and Baccharis halimifolia effectively inhibited the growth of Candida albicans and the formation of its biofilm. The essential oil of B. halimifolia leaves, particularly the compound β-caryophyllene oxide, showed the strongest activity against mature biofilms of C. albicans. This study highlighted the antibiofilm potential of B. halimifolia and its essential oil.

Summary: This study screened the effects of five invasive plants growing in Indonesia against Candida albicans biofilms, and found that one of the plants had strong antibiofilm activity. The ethyl acetate fraction of this plant showed the most potent antibiofilm activity against 24 h old biofilm of C. albicans.

Summary: Through evaluating five Java citronella cultivars in the Deccan Plateau region, researchers found that Jc-5 performed the most stable and high-yielding in Java citronella I, while in Java citronella II type, Jc-3 > Jc-2 > Jc-1 performed better in that order. These genotypes are recommended for large-scale cultivation in the Deccan Plateau region of southern India based on their average performance and stability for higher-quality essential oil yield.

Summary: Amino-acid-based surfactants, particularly arginine-based ones, have low environmental impact and exhibit broad-spectrum biocidal properties. This study investigated the antifungal mechanism of N-& alpha;-benzoyl arginine decyl- and dodecylamide against Candida spp. The compounds effectively inhibited the growth of Candida strains and caused changes in the yeast's exomorphologic structure, potentially impacting membrane permeability and viability loss.

Summary: In recent years, there has been an increasing trend in Candida contamination caused by Candida mastitis, which has a significant impact on the hygienic quality of raw milk and dairy products. The biofilm produced by Candida albicans plays a critical role in fungal infection by protecting the fungus from host defense and drug attacks. Therefore, finding effective means to reduce the biofilm and drug resistance of Candida albicans has become an urgent problem. This study investigated the anti-biofilm effect of berberine-loaded chitosan nanoparticles on Candida albicans and explored the antifungal mechanism of released berberine.

Summary: This study employed a green method to produce silver nanoparticles using grapevine cane extract. The antifungal efficiency of the nanoparticles was characterized based on their size and hypothesized synergy with bioactive substances. The results showed that larger polydisperse nanoparticles were more effective against the pathogenic yeast Candida albicans. The study also confirmed the synergistic action of the nanoparticles with bioactive extract compounds.
