Summary: During cardiopulmonary bypass, TNF-alpha, Nrf2, and HO-1 gene expressions increase, and these values decrease postoperatively. This indicates that oxidative stress and inflammatory processes start with cardiopulmonary bypass, and antioxidant processes start similarly.

Summary: The present study aimed to quantify the major compounds in brown rice and compare their cytoprotective potential against oxidative stress. The content of hydrophobic compounds in brown rice followed the order of cycloartenyl ferulate (CAF) > alpha-tocopherol (alpha T) > gamma-tocotrienol (gamma T3) > alpha-tocotrienol (alpha T3) > gamma-tocopherol (gamma T). CAF showed significant cytoprotective effect at lower concentration against hydrogen peroxide-induced cytotoxicity compared to alpha T and gamma T.

Summary: The study demonstrates that Dexmedetomidine (DEX) exhibits neuroprotective effects in aged rats with isoflurane (ISO)-induced cognitive impairment through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic mechanisms. DEX activates the MEK1/ERK1/Nrf2/HO-1 axis to attenuate oxidative stress and neurological damage caused by ISO. The findings suggest that DEX may be a potential therapeutic strategy for preventing neurological impairment in elderly patients undergoing ISO anesthesia.

Summary: This study reports on the neuroprotective and antioxidant effects of Cudraisoflavone J derivatives, mediated through the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway via phosphorylation of ERK1/2, JNK, or Akt. Compounds 13m and 24 show potential as therapeutic candidates for neuroprotective treatment of Parkinson's disease.

Summary: Defective antioxidant system and mitochondrial dysfunction contribute to the pathogenesis and progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). The activation of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)-mediated signaling, which is the central defensive mechanism against oxidative stress, has shown potential as a therapeutic strategy. Astragaloside IV (AS-IV), an active ingredient from Huangqi decoction (HQD), was found to promote Nrf2 escape from Keap1-Nrf2 interaction. AS-IV improved mitochondrial function, resistance to oxidative stress-induced diabetic kidney injury and podocyte apoptosis, and the process is closely associated with activation of Nrf2-ARE/TFAM signaling.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the protective efficacy of double-doses of hirudin in compartment syndrome and its association with the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway. The results showed that hirudin at a dose of 8 ATU/kg presented the lowest levels of histological damage, fibrosis, W/D ratio, and oxidative stress. Additionally, treatment with hirudin markedly downregulated the level of inflammatory factors. At 72 h after compartment syndrome, hirudin showed a protective effect associated with the nuclear translocation of Nrf2 and an elevated expression of HO-1.

Summary: This study revealed the protective role of fibroblast growth factor 4 (FGF4) in autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) by inhibiting ferroptosis of hepatocytes. The expression of FGF4 was found to be associated with the severity of ferroptosis in AIH liver injury, and treatment with Ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1) effectively reversed this effect. Additionally, exogenous recombinant FGF4 (rFGF4) was shown to mitigate liver damage and ferroptosis, accompanied by the upregulation of CISD3, Nrf2, and HO-1.

Summary: Cadmium induces kidney toxicity through oxidative stress and inflammation. This study investigates the reciprocal crosstalk among oxidative stress, inflammation, and the nuclear Nrf2 pathway in cadmium-induced nephrotoxicity. The results suggest a role for HO-1 as a linking molecule in mediating nephrotoxicity-associated IL-6 expression upon cadmium exposure.
