The present review demonstrates oil palm biomass as a potential raw material candidate for hydrogen gas production due to its availability in many countries. In particular, properties of oil palm biomass have been investigated to show the hydrogen percentage and lignocelluloses components present in it. Hydrogen production from lignocelluloses components has been reviewed. The calorific values of oil palm biomass are high enough which suggest the hydrogen production is energetically favorable. A detail description of the influence of various experimental conditions (i.e., temperature, reaction times, biomass to water mass ratio, feed rate, absorbent to biomass ratio biomass particle size and the catalyst) for maximum hydrogen production from conversion of oil palm biomass has been listed. In conclusion, the potentials of oil palm biomass for hydrogen production by Thermochemical conversion have been listed. Further researches are recommended to investigate the various other catalytic activities, influence of different mixture of various oil palm biomass and analysis of residual bio-char during the hydrogen production by Thermochemical processes.
