Summary: The type of trigger for Takotsubo syndrome influences the clinical conditions and mortality rate of patients. Patients with emotional triggers are younger, more likely to be female, and have a lower prevalence of comorbidities, while patients with physical triggers are the opposite. Age, gender, diabetes, malignancy, neurological disorders, chest pain, and treatment with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors/angiotensin receptor blockers are predictors of long-term mortality in patients with Takotsubo syndrome.

Summary: Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) can lead to acute heart failure and a potentially life-threatening complication of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH), with an incidence of less than 10% in aSAH patients and a prevalence among postmenopausal women. Early indicators of TTS include elevated serum troponin levels and electrocardiographic abnormalities, with the key finding being left ventricular wall motion abnormality.

Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy: Current Treatment

Summary: The management of TTS is currently empirical and supportive, with therapies being extrapolated from principles used for other cardiovascular diseases. While the pathophysiology of TTS remains elusive, treatment strategies may be targeted at addressing common consequences shared with coronary artery disease and other cardiovascular disorders. New therapeutic hypotheses are being considered based on animal studies and limited patient applications.

Summary: Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is an acute, transient form of heart failure that causes dysfunction of the left ventricle. It can be referred to by different names depending on its precipitating factors and structural manifestations. The most common precipitants are physical and emotional stressors, leading to terms such as "stress cardiomyopathy" and "broken heart syndrome".

Summary: This study compared clinical characteristics and in-hospital outcomes between Japanese and European takotsubo syndrome (TTS) patients, revealing differences in triggers and outcomes between the two ethnic groups. Despite worse in-hospital outcomes for Japanese patients, ethnicity itself does not appear to impact TTS patient outcomes. Machine learning analysis identified physical stressors as the most important prognostic factor for both Japanese and European TTS patients.
