Summary: A case-control study identified IBD-related risk factors for malnutrition, including low BMI, high annual healthcare utility, and endoscopic disease activity. These findings emphasize the importance of developing a disease-specific malnutrition screening tool to improve detection of malnutrition risk in IBD patients.

Summary: The severity of dysphagia in PD is closely related to the severity of falls, but not to gait freezing. This finding may help to pinpoint the anatomical substrate of levodopa-resistant axial symptoms in PD and provide insights for further management.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess CVD risk factors in patients with JIA. IMT, metabolic parameters and health behaviors were evaluated. The study found that CVD risk factors were present in both groups, with more JIA patients having abnormal BMI compared to the control group. Dietary habits were not associated with IMT or other parameters in the JIA group. Only one JIA patient met the criteria for ideal cardiovascular health. The pursuit of ideal cardiovascular health should be given attention in the pediatric population, especially in patients with chronic diseases like JIA. Further studies are needed to apply carotid artery IMT measurement in assessing CVD risk.

Summary: This study examines the healthcare utilization of Veterans living with Parkinson's disease (PD) in the United States. The findings show that only a small proportion of Veterans with PD receive care through the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), with mental health concerns being common among this population. Younger age, higher education level, and more falls are associated with VHA utilization. The study highlights the need for educational outreach and access to mental health resources for Veterans living with PD.

Summary: This study investigated the risk factors and correlation between motor complications and sex hormone levels in female Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. The results showed that female PD patients had a higher incidence of motor complications. Younger age of onset and higher Hoehn-Yahr (H&Y) stage were identified as risk factors for the wearing-off phenomenon, and younger age of onset was a risk factor for dyskinesia in female PD patients. There may also be a correlation between the occurrence of motor complications and sex hormone levels in female PD patients, but further confirmation is needed.

Summary: The study evaluated the risk of falls and fractures in patients with Parkinson disease with psychosis (PDP) compared to those without psychosis at similar disease stages. The results showed that PDP patients had a slightly higher risk of falls and fractures, particularly in falls, compared to PD patients without psychosis.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the risk factors for falls in elderly patients with visual impairment (VI) and assess the predictive performance of these factors. The results showed that gender, smoking, outdoor activities, waking up at night, balance and gait deficits, glaucoma, other retinal degenerations, and better eye visual acuity were independent risk factors for falls in elderly patients with VI. The developed predictive model and nomogram achieved a satisfying prediction of fall risk in these individuals.

Summary: This study investigated the objective sleep characteristics and risk factors among PD patients with and without RLS. The findings showed that RLS prevalence among PD patients was 28.0%, with PD-RLS patients exhibiting poorer sleep quality and disrupted sleep architecture. Motor symptoms severity in PD was significantly linked to sleep quality in both PD-RLS and PD-NRLS patients, with periodic limb movements during sleep being a key risk factor for sleep quality in PD patients with RLS.

Summary: This study assessed the frequency and risk factors of osteoporosis (OST) among patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) compared to a group without IBD. It found that 7.3% of IBD patients suffered from OST. Factors such as male gender, ulcerative colitis, rare physical activity, past fractures, and abnormal levels of certain biomarkers were identified as risk factors for OST in IBD patients. The study highlights the importance of regular physical activity and the use of biomarkers in diagnosing and managing OST in IBD patients.

Summary: This research aimed to assess the relationship between vocabulary level and sensory integration and balance in 5-year-old children. The study found that most children had a low level of vocabulary development, with difficulties in creating subordinate words and defining concepts. While there were no significant differences in vocabulary levels between girls and boys, boys showed more disorders in selected elements of sensory integration and balance.

Summary: Despite higher rates of COVID-19 infection among both patients and staff during the second wave, more reperfusion procedures were performed on patients. COVID-19 infection was associated with higher rates of large vessel occlusion and 30-day mortality, but there were no significant differences in proportions of ischemic strokes, hemorrhagic strokes, and TIAs between the waves or subgroups with or without COVID-19.

Summary: This research aimed to evaluate the relationship between the muscle tone of the erector spinae and spinal curvature in children with low-grade scoliosis. The study found that the erector spinae muscle tone was highest in cases of scoliosis, with a greater tone on the convex side in the thoracic spine and on the concave side in the lumbar spine. Individualized treatment is necessary for each case of scoliosis to address the asymmetry and increase in muscle tone associated with the development of scoliosis.

Summary: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between sensory integration, balance deficits, and scoliotic changes in young schoolgirls. The study included 54 girls aged 11 with scoliotic changes, and assessed their sensory integration and balance deficits using clinical tests and balance system platforms. The results showed a significant relationship between sensory integration, balance deficits, and various measurements of spinal changes. The integration of sensory systems has a positive impact on movement structure, body posture, and spinal development.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between idiopathic asymmetry in infants and body posture in children at an early school age. The results showed that despite physiotherapy, children with asymmetry had more postural defects compared to the control group. These defects mainly involved pelvic skewness, scoliosis angle, deviation from the vertical line, lateral deviation, and surface rotation. Positive correlations were found between direction of asymmetry and pelvic skewness, as well as between the location of asymmetry and the location of curvature.
