Summary: During the COVID-19 lockdown in Denmark, virtual contacts replaced most face-to-face interactions, with certain groups experiencing a decrease in contact numbers. The overall number of contacts with psychiatric hospitals did not decrease significantly for most patient groups, but for specific adult and child/adolescent patients, there was a decrease in contact numbers. The introduction of tele-psychiatry during the lockdown helped minimize disruption to service delivery in the Danish healthcare system.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown measures in South Africa have had a negative impact on the mental health and well-being of the general population, leading to a substantial decrease in mental health care utilization rates for inpatient and outpatient services. However, there was an increase in hospital admissions and outpatient consultations for alcohol withdrawal syndrome during the lockdown period, although the uncertainty of the estimates prevents definitive conclusions.

Summary: Rich datasets related to the Earth have been obtained due to the rapid development of Earth observation technologies. This research proposes a correlation analysis method of time series data based on the dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm, and applies it to the correlation analysis between the time series features of the surface temperature and melting area of the Antarctic ice sheet. The results show that the proposed method can effectively distinguish the change details of nonlinear time series and outperforms traditional correlation coefficients like Pearson's correlation coefficient.

Summary: University-industry research collaboration is a major research policy priority in advanced economies, and this study aims to identify the main drivers influencing academics' propensity to engage in research collaborations with the private sector. Through the analysis of 32,792 Italian professors, it was found that the typical profile of a professor collaborating with industry is male, under 40 years old, a full professor, high performer with diversified research, and experience in industry collaborations. The professor is likely to be part of a team accustomed to industry collaboration in a smaller university, typically a polytechnic, located in the northern region of Italy.

Summary: Despite previous research and warnings against using journal impact as a measure of article impact, some evaluations still rely solely on journal impact to assess citations. This practice is adopted by research administrators and policy-makers, with serious consequences. The goal of this study is to explore the correlation between citations and the impact of the host journal in STEM fields. We also examine whether this correlation varies across different fields and is stronger for highly cited authors. Our dataset includes nearly one million authorships from 2010-2019 in 230 research fields, authored by around 28,000 professors. Results show a weak correlation between the two indicators, particularly for lowly cited authors, although variations exist across fields.

Summary: This article examines the effects of Ukrainian policy reform on the publication behavior and research performance of professors, specifically the introduction of Scopus and WoS publication requirements for professorship. The analysis finds that those who obtained professorship after the reform have a better scientific profile at the time of promotion compared to those who obtained it before. There is also evidence of a bandwagon effect, as the research performance gap between the two cohorts decreased after the introduction of the publication requirements. Despite the incentive to produce more indexed publications, it did not always lead to higher research performance, with some cases showing an increase in research output at the expense of research impact. The effects of the reform could be enhanced by regularly assessing Ukrainian professor performance and expanding the requirements and assessment to include research impact.

Summary: This study compares the scientific standing of the USA and Russia in 146 scientific disciplines. Four dimensions of competitive positioning are considered: contribution to global scientific advancement, researchers' productivity, scientific specialization indexes, and efficiency in resource allocation across disciplines. Using discipline-normalized indicators, the results show that the USA outperforms Russia in most disciplines in terms of scholarly impact and productivity. However, the USA is less efficient in allocating resources due to its higher research diversification.

Summary: This paper quantifies the change in research productivity of Italian academics before the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak using a scientometric approach. Despite a decrease in the number of academics in the national academic system, there is strong growth in both the number of publications and their scholarly impact. The growth in productivity is observed in almost all fields, with some exceptions in highly internationalized fields such as Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. This could be due to the already high international standing of these fields, which leaves smaller margins for improvement.

Summary: This study analyzes the research performance of Italian and Norwegian professors using the Fractional Scientific Strength (FSS) indicator. Differences in publication output and citation impact across fields are examined. The overall performance of the two countries is similar, but there are notable underlying performance differences. Italian professors publish more papers on average, while Norwegians have higher citation impact. Field-level analysis reveals strengths and patterns in both countries. The study contributes to understanding how research performance can be analyzed and compared to inform research policy.
