Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disorder characterized by multisystem organ involvement and unclear pathogenesis. Several adipokines synthesized in the adipose tissue, including leptin, adiponectin, resistin, and chemerin, have been explored in autoimmune rheumatic diseases, especially SLE, and results suggest that these mediators may be implicated in the pathogenesis of SLE. However, the current results are controversial. In this review, we will briefly discuss the expression and possible pathogenic role of several important adipokines, including leptin, adiponectin, resistin, and chemerin in SLE.

Effectiveness of the recurrent laryngeal nerve monitoring during endoscopic thyroid surgery: systematic review and meta-analysis

Yu-Chen Liu, Chuan-Lu Shen, Zi-Yue Fu, Yu-Chen Zhang, Yan-Xun Han, Bang-Jie Chen, Yuan Jiang, Si-Yue Yin, Zhi Tao, Shu-Yan Sheng, Jian-Peng Wang, Bing-Yu Liang, Liang Zhang, Dong Wang, Kai-Le Wu, Hai-Feng Pan, Ye-Hai Liu

Summary: The effectiveness of intraoperative nerve monitoring (IONM) in endoscopic thyroid surgery was explored in this study. The results showed that IONM significantly reduced the incidence of transient recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) palsy, but did not significantly reduce the incidence of permanent RLN palsy. However, there was a significant reduction in total RLN palsy. Additionally, IONM effectively reduced the localization time of the RLN and increased the identification rate of the superior laryngeal nerve. Therefore, the use of IONM is recommended for malignant tumors.

Emerging roles of air pollution and meteorological factors in autoimmune eye diseases

Fan Cao, Zhuo-Ran Liu, Qin-Yu Ni, Chen-Kai Zha, Shu-Jie Zhang, Jia-Min Lu, Yue-Yang Xu, Li-Ming Tao, Zheng-Xuan Jiang, Hai-FenG Pan

Summary: Autoimmune eye diseases (AEDs) are a group of autoimmune inflammatory ocular conditions caused by immune system dysregulation at the ocular level, which can affect both intraocular and periorbital structures, leading to severe visual deficit and global blindness. The roles of air pollution and meteorological factors in the initiation and progression of AEDs have become increasingly attractive, with both systemic and local mechanisms involved. Exposure to excessive air pollution and extreme meteorological conditions can disturb the Th17/Treg balance, regulate macrophage polarization, activate neutrophils, induce systemic inflammation and oxidative stress, decrease retinal blood flow, promote tissue fibrosis, activate the sympathetic nervous system, adversely affect nutrient synthesis, and induce heat stress, which together may worsen AEDs. The interplay among inflammation, oxidative stress, and dysregulated immune system appears to be prominent. This review focuses on the potential mechanisms underlying the connections between air pollution and meteorological factors and ocular autoimmune and inflammatory responses. Furthermore, we concentrate on the specific roles of air pollutants and meteorological factors in several major AEDs including uveitis, Graves' ophthalmopathy (GO), ocular allergic disease (OAD), glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy (DR), etc.

Global Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease burden attributable to air pollution from 1990 to 2019

Guixia Pan, Jian Cheng, Hai-Feng Pan, Yin-Guang Fan, Dong-Qing Ye

Summary: This study aimed to assess the disease burden of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) attributable to air pollution from multiple epidemiological perspectives. The results showed that in 2019, COPD deaths associated with air pollution accounted for 2.32% of global total deaths, and the disease-adjusted life years (DALY) accounted for 1.12% of global DALY. The number of COPD deaths associated with air pollution increased from 1990 to 2019, peaking at 1.41 million in 1993, and then declined. The burden of COPD associated with air pollution was also influenced by national indicators. Therefore, health policymakers are called to take action and interventions targeting vulnerable countries and populations.

Outlining and Filling: Hierarchical Query Graph Generation for Answering Complex Questions Over Knowledge Graphs

Yongrui Chen, Huiying Li, Guilin Qi, Tianxing Wu, Tenggou Wang

Summary: Query graph construction aims to generate a correct SPARQL query to answer natural language questions on a knowledge graph. Existing methods face challenges in handling complex questions including complicated SPARQL syntax, huge search space, and locally ambiguous query graphs. This paper proposes a novel end-to-end approach that leverages a unified graph grammar called AQG and hierarchical autoregressive decoding to construct query graphs effectively. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method significantly improves the state-of-the-art performance on complex KGQA benchmarks.
