This paper presents a new hybrid intelligent method for the optimal placement and sizing of active power filters (APFs) from cost point of view in the power distribution system. Different costs of APFs are presented in this paper. To achieve the more saved cost, an intelligent method based on fuzzy logic and imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA) is proposed. Four indices are used to identify the initial locations of APFs. A new discrete improved adaptive ICA is proposed to determine the optimal locations and sizing of APFs. The intelligent method is validated on the IEEE 18-bus distribution system. The results show that our hybrid intelligent method is more efficient and economical in comparison with several non-hybrid approaches in this field. Besides, this paper clearly shows the impact of the fixed cost of APFs on investment costs.

Shayan Z. T. Motlagh, Asghar Akbari Foroud

Summary: This paper proposes a new method for identifying power quality disturbances using adaptive chirp mode pursuit (ACMP) and a greedy algorithm, which takes advantage of sparse matrices to reduce computational cost. The method also applies infinite feature selection and grasshopper optimization algorithm for classifier parameter optimization. The results show high accuracy and speed, with noise rejection capability, making it suitable for power quality measuring and analysis devices.

Harmonic reduction of three-phase power inverter injection current using virtual admittance

Mohammadreza Izadi, Asghar Akbari Foroud

Summary: This article presents a new control scheme that utilizes the concept of virtual admittance to reduce injection current harmonics, aiming to maintain and improve the quality of power produced by renewable energy sources when the local grid voltage is distorted. The method of obtaining the virtual admittance function is simpler and completely different, and its constituent loop is outside the main control loop of the injection current. This approach does not interfere with important issues such as the stability of the inverter control system, making it a promising solution for harmonic compensation.
