Summary: Researchers in healthcare communication come from diverse educational backgrounds, which can strengthen the field but may also lead to negative impacts. Some researchers may use the concepts of reliability and validity loosely or incorrectly, cautioning against a tyranny of these concepts. It is important to strike a balance between creativity and rigor in research.

Summary: This study determined the cut-off values of BASDAI for determining disease activity states in ankylosing spondylitis patients. The study found that BASDAI values of 1.9, 3.5, and 4.9 corresponded to ASDAS-CRP values of 1.3, 2.1, and 3.5, respectively. The agreement between disease activity states based on BASDAI and ASDAS-CRP cut-off values was good.

Summary: This study investigates the barriers and facilitators to bracing in adults with painful degenerative scoliosis. It finds that bracing is a feasible intervention for these patients, but adherence to treatment is low. Barriers to bracing include limitations in activities, discomfort in hot weather, and burden of aesthetic appearance, while facilitators include reduced pain, improved activities of daily living, suitable weight, and improved spinal alignment.

Summary: The study demonstrates that CUDOS-C is a reliable and valid self-administered questionnaire for assessing depressive symptoms and screening patients with mixed mania. The optimal cut-off value for identifying mixed features in mania is 11, with a sensitivity of 0.854 and a specificity of 0.868. CUDOS-C identified a higher percentage of patients with mixed features compared to clinicians' diagnosis and MINI-M-C screening.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical supervision quality in anesthesiology. Previous studies focused on evaluating individual anesthesiologists, while little is known about evaluating supervision collectively. By using the evaluation data of 48,788 cases from 115 faculty anesthesiologists, the study found that random effects meta-analysis of percentage incidences is a suitable statistical approach to evaluate the overall quality of clinical supervision provided to trainees by the department.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the optimal diagnostic cut-off value for exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB). Participants were categorized into definite EIB, borderline, and normal groups based on their Delta FEV1 values after an exercise challenge test. The definite EIB group exhibited wheezing, Delta FEV1/FVC ratio >= 10%, and Delta FEF25-75% ratio >= 25%. A cut-off value of Delta FEV1 >= 13.5% had high sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing EIB.

Summary: Activating mutations in EZH2 play a role in promoting cancer progression, and inhibiting the enzymatic activity of EZH2 may not be effective due to resistance and dependence on its non-catalytic activity. This study identifies USP47 as a novel regulator of mutant EZH2, and targeting USP47 leads to degradation of mutant EZH2 and death of mutant EZH2-positive cells. This suggests that targeting USP47 with a small molecule inhibitor could be a potential therapy for DLBCL and other hematologic malignancies characterized by mutant EZH2 expression.

Summary: This paper investigates a general numerical procedure to solve the three-dimensional multiple scattering problem of elastic waves on a plate with cylindrically flat-bottomed indentations. It develops a linear matrix and a set of linear algebraic equations to represent the relationships between wave expansion co-efficients and solves them using the numerical collocation method. The simulation results show mode conversions and details of stop-band formations, as well as far-field scattering polarizations of shear and flexural waves in the case of multiple scattering.

Summary: This study analyzed the genomic sequencing of primary spinal cord astrocytoma (SCA) to characterize its mutational landscape. The study identified 12 driver genes and three rare mutated driver genes. It also observed genetic mutations associated with the risk of brain glioma and recurrent amplification of the CDK4 gene in the 12q14.1 region. Additionally, mutations in the cell cycle pathway were found in 39.2% of patients. Overall, SCAs share a significant degree of somatic mutation landscape with brainstem glioma.

Summary: In 2019, the International Classification of Diseases 11th Revision (ICD-11) introduced the concept of chronic primary pain (CPP), which is a type of chronic pain characterized by severe functional disability and emotional distress. This study aimed to explore the neural characteristics of CPP by analyzing EEG data from 67 subjects under the auditory oddball paradigm. The results revealed significant differences in brain network connectivity between CPP patients and depressive patients, suggesting hyperexcitability in attentional control in CPP patients. The study also proposed a novel method for objectively assessing chronic primary pain using deep learning-based EEG classification models.

Summary: This study investigated the medical treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in China and compared it with the Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments (CANMAT). A total of 3275 patients from 16 mental health centers and 16 general hospitals in China were surveyed. The results showed that selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) were the most commonly used drugs in the initial therapy, but their proportion decreased in the follow-up therapy and were replaced by serotonin-noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). Many patients directly opted for combined pharmacotherapies as the first treatment, which deviated from guideline recommendations.
