Eu(III) coordination polymers exhibit red luminescence through 4f-4f transitions. The emission spectra are observed by exciting the organic ligands at the pi-pi* transition band in the coordination polymers. The characteristic luminescence is determined by the coordination geometry, vibrational structures, and energy levels of the organic ligands. In this review, the photophysical properties of Eu(III) coordination polymers are introduced for their potential use in future photonic materials.
