Summary: This study explores the struggle supervisors face in encouraging employees to engage in diversity advocacy, and suggests that a lack of empowerment may be one reason for this struggle. The study finds that supervisor integrity can empower observers to engage in diversity advocacy, particularly when employees perceive a negative diversity climate. Through three complementary studies, the theory is tested and a four-item diversity advocacy scale is developed and validated.

Summary: The study found that 67% of respondents had experienced priority-setting dilemmas in the early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, with healthcare workers directly involved in COVID-19 care, redeployed, or working in psychiatry/addiction medicine experiencing it more often. Although 59% of respondents saw adverse consequences due to resource scarcity, severe consequences were rare. Moral distress levels were generally low, but higher in selected groups. Support from existing collegial and managerial structures, as well as priority-setting guidelines, were found to be helpful.
