Summary: This study assessed six phosphate binders and found that lanthanum dioxycarbonate had the lowest dosage and binding capacity for phosphate. Lanthanum dioxycarbonate showed the lowest daily dose volume and the smallest volume required to bind 1 g of phosphate compared to other commercially available phosphate binders.

Summary: The study found that individuals with better vitamin K status in chronic kidney disease have a lower risk of all-cause mortality, but there is no significant difference in the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease events.

Summary: Proper nutritional management is crucial for children with chronic kidney disease (CKD) to maintain normal growth and development. Infants with CKD have specific nutritional needs, and inadequate nutrition can lead to growth impairment and abnormal neurodevelopment.

Summary: Zinc is essential for various physiological processes in humans, and its deficiency can lead to impaired growth, immune function, taste maintenance, and neurological function. Patients with chronic kidney disease are at risk of zinc deficiency, which is associated with anemia, nutritional problems, cardiovascular diseases, and non-specific symptoms. Zinc supplementation may be beneficial, but it can cause copper deficiency and severe disorders. This review focuses on the roles of zinc and its association with complications in CKD patients.

Summary: Research suggests that Chronic Kidney Disease will be the 5th main cause of global deaths by 2040, with hyperphosphatemia being a significant contributing factor. Various Phosphate Binders have been evaluated for their effectiveness and potential side effects, with different outcomes for each. Development of new Phosphate Binders should consider their ability to act as protective modifiers.

Summary: The study showed that chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients can benefit from nutrition education (NE) and lifestyle adjustments in improving kidney function and cardiovascular risk factors, particularly for patients who smoke or have inactive physical activity. Nutrition education may play a positive role in enhancing kidney function and improving cardiovascular risk factors.

Summary: Chronic kidney disease is a progressive and irreversible condition that can lead to alterations in the gut microbiota and activation of the immune system, with dietary factors playing a significant role in immune cell activation and microbiota balance. Understanding the relationship between intestinal microbiota and kidney dysfunction is crucial in the progression of kidney diseases.

Summary: This study found that elevated serum phosphate and intact FGF23 levels were closely associated with an increased risk of anemia in patients with chronic kidney disease. Low phosphate levels amplified the effect of intact FGF23 concentration on anemia.

Summary: Patients with CKD have a higher cardiovascular risk than the general population due to the accumulation of uremic toxins. Protein-bound uremic toxins originate from various sources and are difficult to remove with conventional therapies. Diet plays an important role in uremic toxicity, with most toxins derived from the gut. This review summarizes the sources of uremic toxins in foods and discusses their metabolism and potential dietary strategies for reducing their plasma levels.

Summary: The guideline provides evidence-based nutrition recommendations for hospitalized patients with acute kidney disease (AKD) and chronic kidney disease (CKD), addressing the metabolic and nutritional aspects of kidney disease patients. It is intended as a basic framework incorporating expert opinions and structured consensus processes to update relevant nutrition guidelines.

Summary: This study investigates the role of sevelamer in gastrointestinal injury among chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. The results show that gastrointestinal injury in CKD patients in both groups had similar features regardless of the presence of sevelamer. The study highlights other histologically identifiable causes of intestinal injury and suggests caution in attributing gastrointestinal injuries solely to sevelamer.

Summary: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a significant global healthcare issue, but the prevalence of pediatric CKD has not been systematically assessed and consistent information is lacking. The current definition of CKD based on glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and albuminuria is challenging in the pediatric population, resulting in underdiagnosis and delays in treatment. Advances in sequencing technology have revealed that CKD is more common in children and adolescents than previously realized, leading to identification of new therapeutic targets. This review focuses on recent innovations in pediatric CKD and aims to provide a new perspective on the disease.

Summary: Body composition measurement plays a crucial role in the nutritional management of patients with chronic kidney disease. Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) has been widely used to detect body composition changes in different stages of kidney disease. This review summarizes the latest research findings on the application of BIA in nutritional management.
