Summary: Studies have shown that caffeinated sports drinks and energy drinks can effectively improve various aspects of sports performance, with better results when the caffeine intake is at least 3 mg per kg of body weight; caffeinated sports drinks are more beneficial for long-duration exercise, while energy drinks are more suitable for pre-exercise consumption; the benefits obtained by female and male athletes using caffeinated drinks appear to be similar.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed literature on flow in youth sport, physical activity, and physical education, highlighting issues with the measurement and conceptualisation of flow. While evidence has accumulated on antecedents and outcomes of flow in youth, further research is needed to understand the occurrence of flow and develop interventions that reliably induce flow states.

Summary: This study compared the moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) levels and teaching practices in primary physical education (PE) using linear pedagogy, nonlinear pedagogy, and usual practice. The results showed that both linear and nonlinear pedagogical approaches did not negatively impact MVPA levels compared to usual practice. Additionally, these pedagogical approaches included higher percentages of MVPA promoting teaching practices.

Summary: Motor imagery and action observation, when combined, can enhance motor performance. This study found that a combination of action observation and motor imagery performed in an asynchronous or progressive manner results in better golf putting performance and learning compared to synchronous combination. Further research is needed to determine the best way to combine action observation and motor imagery.

Summary: The study found that athletes' symptoms of mental disorders were high during the pandemic, with high baseline levels and no significant changes over time. Female athletes had higher scores for disordered eating, and higher levels of perceived stress predicted higher scores on mental disorder measures.

Summary: This study using prospective cohort data found an association betweendevice-measured moderate and vigorous physical activity (MPA and VPA) and lower risk of affective disorders. Assuming causality, achieving 150 minutes per week of MPA and 75 minutes per week of VPA could prevent 5.14% and 18.88% of affective disorders, respectively.

Summary: This study comprehensively examines the influence of air pollution on the performance of highly skilled athletes, including both physical and cognitive abilities. The findings show that increased levels of PM10 and O3 are associated with decreased physical and technical performance, while higher concentrations of NO2 negatively impact cognitive performance. These findings underscore the widespread impact of pollution on athletes and highlight the importance of considering air pollution in relation to human health and the environment.

Summary: The rise in energy drink consumption is largely driven by effective marketing targeting both the general population and athletes. Adolescents are the main consumers of energy drinks, with a usage rate ranging from 52% to 68%, while adults have an estimated usage rate of 32%. The main components of energy drinks are caffeine and taurine, and their potential synergistic effects on physical performance are still under scrutiny.

Summary: During skill acquisition, improved practice performance and recall of a sensorimotor skill are correlated with distinct neural activity patterns, drawing on different motor learning mechanisms. Practice performance improvement is associated with activations in the frontal orbital cortex, putamen, amygdala, and insula, while recall performance is associated with activations in the primary motor cortex, superior frontal gyrus, somatosensory cortex, angular gyrus, and parietal gyrus.

Summary: This study found that attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control mainly influence PA intention among college students and wage earners, and intention significantly predicts PA behavior. Mental toughness (MT) is positively correlated with PA among both groups and plays a significant moderation role in bridging the gap between intention and behavior.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the effect of positive social comparative feedback on motor sequence learning and expectancies. The results suggest that feedback content is an important consideration during motor practice, as feedback without context may be detrimental to motor sequence learning. Additionally, comparative context may be necessary to enhance expectancies and support in skills that rely on implicit sequence learning processes.

Summary: This study aims to explore the physical and technical demands as well as preparation strategies of female field collision sports. By conducting a review of published research, it was found that physical demands were the most investigated, followed by technical demands, tactical considerations, and preparatory strategies. The findings suggest a gender data gap and a lack of evidence to inform the preparation of female athletes for match demands.

Summary: Mental fatigue significantly affects technical performance of soccer players, including offensive and defensive skills. Studies have shown significant effects on errors, number of tackles, and successful tackles, while passing skills were not significantly affected. Future research may explore additional factors such as decision-making skills or internal load.

Summary: This article introduces a theory on the dynamic development of affective processes, affect regulation, and the relationship between emotions and sport performance. It emphasizes the dynamics of affective processes and describes the impact on performance in competitive sports. Future research should test these assumptions in ecologically valid contexts and use multi-component measures of emotions.

Summary: This scoping review provides an overview of organic self-talk and strategic self-talk. Organic self-talk shows consistent concurrence with affective processes and serves various functions in emotion regulation. The effectiveness of strategic self-talk intervention studies remains uncertain. Integration of established theories in sport psychology can enhance the systematic approach to studying the relationship between self-talk and affective processes.

Summary: This study examines the antecedents and consequences of outward emotional reactions in sports competitions through video recordings and self-confrontational interviews with German table tennis players. The findings suggest that factors influencing emotional reactions vary from more malleable to less malleable, impacting both the individual's mental state and the opponent's psychological state. The results emphasize the importance of understanding the behavioral component in the emotion-performance relationship and raise awareness of the antecedents of outward emotional reactions for athletes to improve their psychological skills in emotional control.
