Summary: Children with ASD exhibit dietary patterns characterized by high energy and fat intake, low intake of vegetables and fruits, and frequent consumption of processed foods with poor nutritional quality, such as beverages, sweets, snacks, and bakery products. Their meat and dairy intake is associated with increased consumption of fish, grains, and pasta. Nutrient adequacy comparisons show higher intake for energy, saturated fat, calcium, and vitamin C, but lower intake for iron, iodine, and B group vitamins in children with ASD compared to control children. This study emphasizes the importance of assessing dietary patterns and nutrient intake in children with ASD to address nutritional deficiencies and prevent potential health issues.

Summary: This study evaluated the status of dietary diversity, nutrient adequacy, blood biomarkers, and anthropometric status among preschool children in poor ethnic minority areas of northwest China. The findings showed that dietary diversity was associated with nutrient adequacy and other health outcomes. Factors such as living in urban areas, higher household wealth, and caregivers' nutritional knowledge were positively associated with dietary diversity, while living in urban areas, higher education of caregivers, and higher dietary diversity were positively associated with nutrient adequacy.

Summary: This study investigated the link between family-based stress and dietary patterns that promote inflammation. It found that chaotic and dysfunctional family environments were associated with more proinflammatory dietary profiles in parents, indicating an increased risk of chronic disease. No direct association was found between children's dietary inflammatory profiles and family stress, suggesting the need for further research to explore possible indirect connections through family food-related behaviors.

Summary: This study investigated the sociodemographic determinants of picky eating and its association with dietary intake in children. Children of mothers with obesity were more likely to exhibit picky eating behavior, and those with higher levels of picky eating consumed less fruits, vegetables, and protein, while having higher trans fatty acid intake.

Summary: The study examined how different domains of self-regulation predict overeating in young children, finding that appetitive self-regulation was significantly and negatively associated with eating in the absence of hunger. Inhibitory control and attentional control did not predict overeating behaviors effectively, suggesting that food-related self-regulation may be a key factor in preventing overeating.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a new questionnaire to assess parental perceived barriers to healthy feeding in young children and evaluate its psychometric properties. The results confirmed the theoretical structure of the scale, with five identified scales: Child-Related Barriers, Parent-Related Barriers-Vegetables and Fruit, Parent-Related Barriers-Added Sugars, Social Context-Related Barriers, and Cost-Related Barriers. The study also found significant correlations between child- and parent-related barriers and factors such as feeding practices, children's eating self-regulation, and food parenting self-efficacy. Overall, the questionnaire demonstrated good validity and reliability in assessing parental perceived barriers to healthy feeding in young children.

Summary: The study found a relationship between child dietary intake and healthy eating practices in childcare centres where parents pack foods from home. Providing intentional healthy eating learning experiences and using feeding practices that support children's healthy eating were associated with reduced child intake of saturated fat. This highlights the importance of focusing on various healthy eating practices to improve child nutrition in childcare centres.

Summary: This study assessed feeding practices, dietary diversities, and dietary adequacy among caregivers with under-five children in the Dodoma region, Tanzania. The findings revealed that most caregivers had unsatisfactory feeding practices and the children had inadequate dietary diversity and dietary adequacy. This poses a serious risk to the nutritional health of under-five children.

Summary: This study evaluated the dietary food groups, nutrient intakes, and eating behaviors of children and adolescents with metabolically healthy or unhealthy obesity phenotypes. The findings showed that children and adolescents with unhealthy obesity consumed less whole grains and polyunsaturated fat, and had lower cognitive dietary restraint. Additionally, the consumption of deep fried food, fast food, and processed convenience food was associated with higher blood pressure. Higher intake of polyunsaturated fat and stronger cognitive dietary restraint were associated with a lower risk of unhealthy obesity phenotype.

Summary: Due to urbanization and lack of time, eating out or getting food delivered has become a common trend. Consumption of food from unknown sources may increase the risk of contamination. Data on foodborne diseases are influenced by cultural, political, and socioeconomic differences. The pandemic has also led to new eating behavior patterns.

Summary: This study examined the plant-based food intake in preschool-aged children using the plant-based dietary index (PDI) metrics and found that higher PDI scores were associated with higher intakes of nutrients and food groups to encourage and lower intakes of those to limit. These results can inform dietetic practice for dietary guidance that promotes plant-based foods in children.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between micronutrient intake and the degree of food processing, as well as the association between the consumption of ultra-processed foods and micronutrient inadequacies in Portuguese adults and elderly individuals. The findings reveal that ultra-processed foods have lower content of vitamins and minerals compared to unprocessed or minimally processed foods. High energy contribution from ultra-processed foods is associated with lower density of vitamins and minerals. Public health actions promoting a reduction in the consumption of ultra-processed foods are important.

Summary: Although the detrimental effect of micronutrient deficiency on neurodevelopment is well established, the potential impact of macronutrient intake on the early life neurodevelopment of healthy term infants has been rarely studied. This study found no association between macronutrient intake at 12 months and cognitive development at 3 and 5-6 years. Further research is needed to clarify the relationship between early fatty acid intake and neurodevelopment.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the factors associated with meat and meatless meal consumption and assessed the use of multi-state models to describe transitions between lunch and dinner. The study found that women, older individuals, and those with higher education were more likely to choose meatless meals and had a lower risk of transitioning back to meat in the following meal. Strategies to replace meat with more sustainable foods should be tailored to different population groups.

Summary: This study aimed to explore eating behavior patterns among Portuguese adolescents and their associations with early life and family characteristics, severity of depressive symptoms, and body mass index (BMI) z-score. Five distinct patterns of eating behavior were identified, and these patterns were significantly associated with adolescents' sex, maternal education, BMI z-score, and severity of depressive symptoms. These findings provide a starting point for the development and planning of targeted public health interventions.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the relationship between children's appetitive traits at age 7 and food consumption at age 10. The study found that children who enjoyed food were more likely to consume fruits and vegetables frequently at age 10, while those who ate in response to negative emotions were more likely to consume energy-dense foods and salty snacks. Appetitive traits were also associated with changes in vegetable consumption frequency at age 10.

Summary: Multiple studies have shown a connection between eating behaviors and weight status as well as obesity risk in children. These eating behaviors are influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. Parents have a crucial role in shaping children's food environment and experiences. This paper aims to review the literature on how parental influences affect eating behaviors in childhood, particularly focusing on parental feeding practices. The relationship between parental feeding practices and children's eating behaviors has been extensively studied, but most findings come from cross-sectional studies, which means the possibility of reverse causality cannot be ruled out.
