Nanomaterials show promising potential in addressing COVID-19 and reducing infectious waste, with applications in therapy, prevention, environmental protection, and future viral disease research.
In 2019, a novel type of coronavirus emerged in China called SARS-COV-2, known COVID-19, threatens global health and possesses negative impact on people's quality of life, leading to an urgent need for its diagnosis and remedy. On the other hand, the presence of hazardous infectious waste led to the increase of the risk of transmitting the virus by individuals and by hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, in this review, we survey previous researches on nanomaterials that can be effective for guiding strategies to deal with the current COVID-19 pandemic and also decrease the hazardous infectious waste in the environment. We highlight the contribution of nanomaterials that possess potential to therapy, prevention, detect targeted virus proteins and also can be useful for large population screening, for the development of environmental sensors and filters. Besides, we investigate the possibilities of employing the nanomaterials in antiviral research and treatment development, examining the role of nanomaterials in antiviral- drug design, including the importance of nanomaterials in drug delivery and vaccination, and for the production of medical equipment. Nanomaterialsbased technologies not only contribute to the ongoing SARS- CoV-2 research efforts but can also provide platforms and tools for the understanding, protection, detection and treatment of future viral diseases.

Indu Dohare, Karan Singh, Bruno A. Pansera, Ali Ahmadian, Massimiliano Ferrara

Summary: Data transmission in IoT-based sensor networks is crucial, and the shortest path selection for sensor communication is a challenging problem. Swarm-based metaheuristic approach can solve this NP-complete problem effectively. Sensor-enabled smart networks support diverse applications, and the hexagonal shape is considered ideal for clustering sensors. This article proposes an optimal energy-efficient route selection method based on swarm optimization, and the experimental results prove its effectiveness.

Advances in Financial Leasing Mechanism Designs

Lucianna Canana, Luigi De Cesare, Massimiliano Ferrara

Summary: Financial leasing contracts often have clauses for early termination in case of lessee default. The lessor may delay terminating the contract to take advantage of increased fees due to default interest. This study aims to determine the optimal time for contract rescission when the default interest rate exceeds the contract's outstanding interest rate and the alternative investment return is deterministic. It provides a detailed list of cases in which termination is appropriate. The problem is formulated under deterministic and semi-deterministic dynamics for the opportunity cost.

Optimal Pursuit Game of Two Pursuers and One Evader with the Gronwall-Type Constraints on Controls

Gafurjan Ibragimov, Ikrombek Yusupov, Massimiliano Ferrara

Summary: We studied a simple motion differential game involving two pursuers and one evader in a two-dimensional space. The control functions of the players are restricted by Gronwall-type constraints. The objective of the pursuers is to complete the game as quickly as possible, while the evader aims to avoid capture or delay the capture time. We derived an equation for the optimal pursuit time and determined the optimal strategies for all players.

On the Lifeline Game of the Inertial Players with Integral and Geometric Constraints

Bahrom Samatov, Gafurjan Ibragimov, Bahodirjon Juraev, Massimiliano Ferrara

Summary: This paper investigates a pursuit-evasion game with inertial players, where the pursuer's control is subject to integral constraint and the evader's control is subject to geometric constraint. The main tool used in the pursuit problem is the strategy of parallel pursuit. Sufficient conditions are derived for the solvability of pursuit-evasion problems. Additionally, the paper proves the main lemma describing the monotonicity of the evader's attainability domain and provides an explicit analytical formula for this domain. One of the main results of this study is the solution of the Isaacs lifeline game for a special case.

Land surface dynamics and meteorological forcings modulate land surface temperature characteristics

Oluwafemi E. Adeyeri, Akinleye H. Folorunsho, Kayode I. Ayegbusi, Vishal Bobde, Tolulope E. Adeliyi, Christopher E. Ndehedehe, Akintomide A. Akinsanola

Summary: This study examines the impact of land cover, vegetation health, climatic forcings, elevation heat loads, and terrain characteristics on land surface temperature distribution over West Africa. The random forest model performs the best in downscaling predictands. The southern regions consistently exhibit healthy vegetation, while areas with unhealthy vegetation coincide with hot land surface temperature clusters. Positive Normalized Difference Vegetation Index trends in the Sahel highlight rainfall recovery and subsequent greening. Southwest winds cause the upwelling of cold waters, resulting in low land surface temperatures in southern West Africa. Considering LVCET factors is crucial for prioritizing greening initiatives and urban planning.

Summary: This study analyzes the structure, function, operation, and failure characteristics of district heating networks (DHNs) and proposes vulnerability analysis methods. The effectiveness of these methods is validated through application to a DHN in a Chinese city. The study finds that the heat source connectivity efficiency loss rate effectively characterizes topological and functional vulnerability. It also reveals that controllable DHNs have higher functional vulnerability under large area failure scenarios.
