Summary: Men have more severe Covid-19 outcomes and higher mortality rates than women, but testosterone levels may not play a significant role. Studies show that testosterone concentrations in men during acute Covid-19 are inversely proportional to inflammation and illness severity.

Summary: Hypogonadism is common in male patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Low testosterone (T) levels are associated with unfavorable outcomes of COVID-19, and further prospective studies are needed to evaluate the long-term outcomes of hypogonadism related to COVID-19 and the clinical impact of T replacement during and after acute illness.

Summary: Most cancer patients show high seroconversion rates after receiving COVID-19 vaccines, but those with hematologic malignancies, especially after highly immunosuppressive therapies, exhibit lower conversion rates. Patients on immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy or hormonal therapy display high conversion rates.

Summary: This study evaluated the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in men admitted with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia and found that testosterone levels were associated with adverse clinical outcomes. Short-term changes in hormone levels may be related to functional recovery of steroidogenesis and improvement in spermatozoa functional status.

Summary: Knowledge on the effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 in liver diseases has rapidly increased during the pandemic. Patients with chronic liver disease, especially decompensated cirrhosis, are at a higher risk for severe COVID-19 and death. Liver transplantation was impacted due to concerns about donation and infection in recipients, but did not contribute to worse outcomes. Limited data suggests that specific therapy for COVID-19 in liver transplant recipients may be promising. The immune response induced by COVID-19 vaccines seems to be impaired in patients with chronic liver disease and liver transplant recipients, suggesting a need for revised vaccination schedules in this population.

Summary: The COVID-19 epidemic of 2019-20 is caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which has infected millions worldwide. This study aimed to determine if SARS-CoV-2 sequence variants are linked to different outcomes among COVID-19 patients in a single medical system. The virus has shown rapid mutation with two major clades of sequence variants identified.

Summary: The study found that low levels of plasma apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1) and apolipoprotein B (ApoB) in COVID-19 patients are associated with increased risk of developing severe disease, while the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio does not show a significant association with severity. Additionally, low ApoA1 levels are linked to higher all-cause mortality rates.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a predictive scoring model for early detection of high risk COVID-19 patients by analyzing clinical and laboratory data. A simple scoring system incorporating CRP, oxygen saturation variation, PT, diastolic blood pressure, BUN, and LDH was derived. Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether CRP levels at admission could predict the progression of COVID-19 patients, showing that patients with CRP levels >= 100mg/L were more likely to have severe lung involvement, require mechanical ventilation, and had a significantly higher mortality rate compared to those with CRP levels < 100mg/L.

Summary: In patients with cancer and COVID-19, those with hematologic cancer show impaired immune responses compared to solid cancer patients. CD8 T cells play a crucial role in survival, even in the presence of limited humoral responses. The presence of SARS-CoV-2-specific T cell responses in hematologic cancer patients suggests a potential therapeutic target.

Summary: This prospective study aimed to investigate the relationship between smartphone screen time and the intravaginal ejaculation latency time (IELT) in patients with acquired PE. The study included 30 patients diagnosed with acquired PE and 30 healthy volunteers as the control group. The results showed that smartphone screen time negatively affected IELT values and PE severity in patients with acquired PE.

Summary: VEXAS syndrome, a newly defined disorder, poses challenges regarding treatment options. A case report of a patient with atypical symptoms and an intriguing treatment course is presented. The patient exhibited fatigue, recurring fever, lung infiltrates, proteinuria, anemia, leucopenia, transient skin rash, and elevated acute phase reactants. Corticosteroid tapering was not well tolerated, but rapid recovery was achieved following diagnostic splenectomy, which revealed significant findings upon pathological examination.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the reference interval of RDW to platelet count ratio (RPR) for premature newborns. By reviewing the medical records of preterm infants between January 2016 and December 2018, it was found that the reference interval for RPR in infants with a gestational age of 28-35 weeks was 0.038-0.126, 0.042-0.129 for infants with a gestational age of 32-35 weeks, and 0.022-0.121 for infants with a gestational age of 28-31 weeks. Conclusion: Establishing the reference interval for RPR in premature infants allows for clinical correlation of RPR alterations in this population.

Summary: This is a case report of isolated vasculitis of bilateral inferior thyroidal arteries in a 49-year-old female patient. The patient presented with neck pain and was diagnosed with ultrasonography and computed tomographic angiography. The treatment with glucocorticoid induction and addition of methotrexate was successful in managing the clinical and imaging findings. Localized forms of vasculitis are rare and the small size of the affected area makes diagnostic investigations and management more complicated.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the type and frequency of pulmonary involvement in ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) and investigate the potential relationship with thorax CT signs and other clinical findings. It was found that lung involvement was detected in almost all patients with AAV, and severe pulmonary involvement was more common in MPO-ANCA positive patients and associated with severe disease. Therefore, pulmonary examination by imaging may be useful for determining vasculitis subtype and disease extent in AAV patients.

Summary: Cardiac involvement is rare in Behcet syndrome, but it can be the first manifestation of the disease. Early diagnosis and initiation of immunosuppressive treatment are crucial for improving the prognosis. Coronary aneurysms can develop spontaneously or as a reaction to vascular intervention, and the risk of restenosis is high without immunosuppressive treatment. We present a case of a young male diagnosed with Behcet syndrome after acute coronary syndrome caused by coronary artery aneurysms and thrombosis.

Summary: This study compared the sperm retrieval rates between unilateral and bilateral microdissection testicular sperm extraction (MD-TESE) procedures in patients with non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA), and compared them with literature data. The results showed no significant difference in terms of sperm availability between the two groups of patients. Considering the operative time and complication rates of bilateral MD-TESE in patients with NOA, as well as possible subsequent MD-TESE procedures, unilateral MD-TESE is considered to be more preferable for this patient group.

Summary: This study investigated the clinical characteristics and laboratory parameters of newly developed autoimmune-inflammatory rheumatic diseases (AIRD) in individuals recently vaccinated for COVID-19. Among the 22 cases vaccinated, 14 cases developed AIRD, with 54.5% of them diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. The study suggests that COVID-19 vaccination may lead to the development of AIRD and should be carefully considered in newly diagnosed AIRD patients.
