Summary: The study examines the temporal pattern of readmission with acute kidney injury (AKI) following ileostomy formation and identifies risk factors. Results show that among 1191 patients who underwent ileostomy, 198 (16.6%) were readmitted with high output stoma and AKI. Factors such as age, body mass index, and hypertension were associated with readmission with AKI.

Summary: This review with pooled analysis aimed to determine the incidence of dehydration-related and all-cause readmissions after formation of an ileostomy, and the associated costs. The study found that one in five patients are readmitted within 30 days of ileostomy creation, with dehydration being the leading cause. These readmissions come with high healthcare costs.

Summary: Malnutrition is common in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and is associated with poor clinical outcomes. This observational study examines trends in protein-calorie malnutrition (PCM) among hospitalized IBD and non-IBD patients and the association between malnutrition, nutrition support, and hospitalization outcomes. The results suggest that malnutrition is associated with higher readmission and mortality rates, longer hospital stays, and higher healthcare costs among IBD patients.

Summary: This study assessed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on BMI and obesity prevalence in Chinese children aged 8-12 years. The results showed an increase in BMI and obesity prevalence during the pandemic, with a more significant increase in boys and underweight or normal-weight children. Effective public health policies are urgently needed to reduce the risk of pandemic-related childhood obesity.

Summary: This study investigated the incidence and associated factors of cutaneous immune-related adverse events (cirAEs) among cancer patients in northern Thailand, and found that the incidence of cirAE-related ICI therapy was comparable to that in white populations. Age over 75 and pre-existing chronic kidney disease stages 3-4 were identified as prognostic risk factors for cirAE-related ICI therapy.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the long-term consequences of a stoma and poor functional outcomes in patients with rectal cancer. The results showed that both the presence of a stoma and poor functional outcomes were associated with reduced Health-related Quality of Life (HRQoL). Patients without a stoma had significantly better HRQoL compared to those with a stoma.

Summary: This study assessed the impact of a close stoma-therapeutic-care pathway (STCP) on length of stay, autonomy in the management of the pouch, readmission rate, and stoma-related complications. Results showed that STCP reduced hospital stay and empowered patients in managing their stoma.

Summary: This study analyzed a consecutive series of type 2 IF patients followed up by a specialized IF team. The majority of patients were managed at home, had oral intake, and restored albumin levels during the bridging-to-surgery period. Significant risk factors for major complications included low albumin levels and weight loss exceeding 10%.

Summary: The reduction in hospital readmissions has been a target area for healthcare public policy reform in the US. The introduction of the Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program (HRRP) significantly decreased readmission rates but did not necessarily decrease mortality rates. The impact of the HRRP was found to be different in hospital size and racial groups.

Summary: Diet can affect the incidence and severity of COVID-19. Analysis of data from the UK biobank found that higher dietary inflammatory index (DII) scores were associated with an increased risk of COVID-19 and greater disease severity. Approximately one-quarter of the positive associations between DII and COVID-19 outcomes were mediated by body mass index.

Summary: Transplant recipients, especially athletes, are at increased risk of skin cancer due to sun exposure. Despite high awareness, sunburn remains common. Wearing a hat is significantly associated with a reduced prevalence of sunburn, highlighting the importance of sun protection education in this population.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of diagnostic delay on the overall survival rate of colorectal cancer patients. The findings showed that a diagnostic delay of less than 30 days was associated with shorter survival, while a delay of more than 30 days did not have this effect. Short delay remained predictive of survival regardless of age, BMI, Charlson index, or TNM stage.

Summary: Psoriasis, a high incidence dermatosis related to stress, can be effectively managed through mindfulness-based interventions such as Compassionate Emotional Accompaniment Technique (CEAT). A study found that CEAT was more effective in emotional management compared to Emotional Disclosure control group in patients with severe psoriasis. These findings support the use of CEAT intervention in clinical settings to improve emotional management in this population group.

Summary: Chronic sun exposure and sunburns are the main causes of skin cancer, and physical education teachers are at high risk due to their work nature. This study in Andalusia, Spain, analyzed the sun exposure and photoprotection practices of primary and secondary physical education teachers. The findings showed that teachers had high UV radiation exposure, often exceeding international recommendations. The study also revealed low compliance with photoprotection measures, indicating the need for interventions to reduce sun exposure and promote early detection of skin cancer.

Summary: In 2010, the Mediterranean diet was recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, with olive oil being its most characteristic food due to its high nutritional value. Oleic acid (OA), the major component of olive oil, has been found to have various health properties, affecting cell membrane fluidity, receptors, signaling pathways, and gene expression. Additionally, OA has been identified as an activator of sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) and oleoylethanolamide (OEA) derived from OA has been suggested as a potential therapeutic agent for obesity treatment. OA may also influence epigenetic mechanisms and regulate microRNA expression, contributing to its anti-inflammatory effects. This review focuses on understanding the immune modulation exerted by OA through examining cellular reactions and intracellular processes in T cells, macrophages, and neutrophils.

Summary: Almost 50% of multipathological patients have dysphagia. This study compared the dysphagia in two groups of multipathological patients: one group fed with percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) and the other group fed orally. The results showed that patients in the PEG group were mainly diagnosed with dementia, while stroke was the most relevant pathology in those fed orally. Both groups had high comorbidity and dependence.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the sun radiation exposure and sun protection behaviors of outdoor rock climbers. The results showed high rates of sunburn, elevated personal UV radiation doses, and inadequate sun protection practices among the climbers. This highlights the need for explicit sun protection campaigns and educational strategies to reduce the risk of skin cancer in this population.
