Summary: The study aimed to compare the clinical effect of Salvadora persica extract mouthwash and chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash for anti-plaque and anti-gingivitis functions. The results showed that Salvadora persica extract mouthwash can significantly reduce plaque and gingival inflammation, although its effectiveness is inferior to chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash.

Summary: This study investigated the potential application of the hyperlight fluid fusion essential complex in dental plaque control and evaluated the effectiveness of new agents for preventing and treating gingivitis. The study involved two groups, one using 0.12% chlorhexidine mouth rinse and the other using a solution based on hyper-harmonized hydroxylated fullerene water complex (3HFWC). Both groups showed a significant reduction in bacterial counts, with the control group showing a greater reduction. However, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups. The results suggest that 3HFWC solution could be a suitable addition to the growing problem of preventing and treating gingivitis and periodontitis.

Summary: This study evaluated the antiplaque and anti-inflammatory efficacy of different sugar-free chewing gums through a network meta-analysis, showing that gums containing green tea + xylitol outperformed negative control gums in terms of antiplaque efficacy. However, further randomized controlled trials with more head-to-head comparisons are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: This study evaluates the use of salivary alpha-amylase, lysozyme, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), calcium, and phosphorus as markers of periodontal disease in dogs. Seventy-nine dogs were classified into three groups based on the severity of periodontal disease. LDH and phosphorus showed the highest values in the severe periodontal disease group. A cut-off value for salivary phosphorus was established to predict periodontal disease. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings, but this study provides a starting point for non-invasive detection of periodontal disease in dogs using saliva.

Summary: This randomized controlled clinical trial found that dental floss as a supplement to toothbrushing can improve gingival health in adults, with the group using toothbrushing supplemented by dental floss showing better reduction in gingival inflammation compared to the group using toothbrushing alone. Additionally, the reduction in gingival inflammation was more significant in the anterior dentition compared to the posterior dentition.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the effects of oral probiotics containing the Streptococcus salivarius M18 strain on gingival inflammation, bleeding on probing, and oral biofilm. The results showed that after the intervention, the probiotic group had significantly decreased Gingival Index and Plaque Index compared to the placebo group. However, after follow-up, the only significant improvement observed was in gingival condition according to the Gingival Index. The use of oral probiotics containing the Streptococcus salivarius M18 strain resulted in a significant improvement in gingival condition and oral hygiene level in young adults with gingivitis.

Summary: This study investigated the alveolar bone density and thickness in Chinese participants with and without periodontitis. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) was used to evaluate alveolar bone loss, density, and thickness. The results showed significant differences in alveolar bone density and thickness between the healthy and periodontitis groups, with reduced thickness and density in periodontally diseased teeth.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the efficacy of lycopene in the management of oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs). A total of 27 clinical trials were included, and the results showed promising effects of lycopene in alleviating signs and symptoms of OPMDs. However, further well-designed studies with long-term therapy and follow-up are recommended due to the observed heterogeneity and short follow-up periods.

Summary: This survey revealed inadequate knowledge and practices of antibiotic prescription in the context of endodontic therapy among Saudi dental interns. It is recommended that dental schools in Saudi Arabia address this gap by updating their curriculum and integrating real-world clinical scenarios. Additionally, continuous education courses aimed at improving dental professionals' knowledge of antibiotics and their clinical uses in endodontic therapy are highly encouraged.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to summarize the evidence on the effect of horizontal glass fiber posts (HGFPs) on the fracture strength and fracture pattern of endodontically treated teeth (ETT). The results showed that the use of HGFPs increased the fracture resistance of ETT compared to controls without HGFP and reduced the occurrence of non-restorable fractures for premolars. However, further well-conducted studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: The meta-analysis aimed to examine the impact of partial ferrule (PF) on fracture resistance in endodontically treated teeth (ETT), compared to complete ferrule (CF) and/or no ferrule (NF). A total of 17 in vitro studies were included, with a combined sample size of 807 teeth. The results indicated that CF provided superior fracture resistance compared to PF, although certain types of PF were comparable to CF. Additionally, PF showed significantly higher fracture resistance than NF.
