Deployment of the BNT162b2 mRNA Covid-19 Vaccine in Israel began in December 2020. This is a retrospective analysis of serological data, showing SARS-CoV-2 anti-S IgG kinetics in 116 Israeli health care workers receiving BNT162b2. Sero-conversion occurred in 14 days in all study participants, with IgG levels peaking approximately 30 days after initiation of the vaccination series. A statistically significant difference was observed in IgG levels between subjects younger than 50 years and older participants, although in all cases, IgG levels were well above the level considered reactive by the test's manufacturer. The importance of this difference needs to be studied further, but a potential difference in vaccine efficacy and vaccine effect length could possibly be present between these two groups. The Incidence of SARS-CoV-2 Reinfection in Persons With Naturally Acquired Immunity With and Without Subsequent Receipt of a Single Dose of BNT162b2 Vaccine A Retrospective Cohort Study

Sivan Gazit, Roei Shlezinger, Galit Perez, Roni Lotan, Asaf Peretz, Amir Ben-Tov, Esma Herzel, Hillel Alapi, Dani Cohen, Khitam Muhsen, Gabriel Chodick, Tal Patalon

Summary: This study compares the reinfection rate between previously infected individuals who were not vaccinated and those who received a single dose of the BNT162b2 vaccine. The results show that vaccination significantly reduces the risk of reinfection and symptomatic disease.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of the BNT162b2 vaccine in high-risk exposure settings by analyzing vaccinated and unvaccinated household members of individuals with SARS-CoV-2. The vaccine was found to be effective in high-risk real-life exposure scenarios, but the protection provided in these settings was lower than previously described.

Effect of same-arm versus cross-arm administration of sequential doses of BNT162b2 on short-term vaccine effectiveness-a retrospective cohort study

Daniel Grupel, Yehonatan Pasternak, Yochai Schonmann

Summary: This study aimed to test whether administering the second dose of the BNT162B2 vaccine on the same arm as the first dose or on the cross-arm results in a stronger immune response. A retrospective cohort study was conducted on Clalit Health Services members who received the vaccine. The study found that administering both doses on the same arm led to a lower frequency of the primary endpoint compared to the cross-arm administration.

Public and animal health risks associated with spillover of Brucella melitensis into dairy farms

Svetlana Bardenstein, Daniel Grupel, Shlomo E. Blum, Yair Motro, Jacob Moran-Gilad

Summary: Brucellosis, a global zoonotic disease, poses significant public health, animal health, and economic challenges. A study in Israel analyzed Brucella melitensis outbreaks in dairy farms since 2006 and used genomics to explore the implications of this One Health issue. Genomic sequencing revealed connections between seemingly unrelated outbreaks and confirmed secondary human infections. The study also identified a regional connection between bovine and endemic human brucellosis cases, suggesting a common reservoir in local small ruminant herds.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic significantly affected the utilization of outpatient medical imaging services and the detected clinical conditions. The study analyzed the impact of COVID-19 on these services and found significant changes in utilization and abnormal findings, particularly in musculoskeletal magnetic resonance and brain computed tomography exams. Causal associations were observed between SARS-CoV-2 infection, COVID-19-related hospitalization, and future risk for abnormal findings.

Summary: The increased incidence of adolescent obesity may be associated with lower cognitive performance than expected potential. This study found that male adolescents with severe obesity had a higher proportion of low cognitive scores compared to their normal-weight counterparts. Similar findings were observed in females. This study suggests that obesity is associated with a lower cognitive performance and the inability to fully achieve cognitive potential.
