Summary: The process of ultrasound-assisted extraction of vanadium from aqueous phase to organic phase by MAC was investigated. The factors influencing the extraction rate, such as stirring speed, temperature, and ultrasound power, were studied. It was found that increasing the stirring speed and ultrasound power could eliminate diffusion resistance and conform the extraction process to a first-order kinetic model.

Summary: Ultrasound-Assisted Pressurized Liquid Extraction (UAPLE) and Nanofiltration (NF) in 70% ethanol were found effective in recovering and concentrating bioactive compounds, mainly isoorientin, from passion fruit rinds. However, membrane surface fouling was observed during filtration process, leading to reduced permeate mass fluxes. Overall, integrated UAPLE and NF process shows promise for phenolic compounds recovery from passion fruit rinds.

Summary: This study investigated the extraction of phenolics from wheat and oat bran using ultrasound technology. The kinetics of ultrasound-assisted extraction and subsequent stirring of total phenolic compounds were analyzed using Peleg's mathematical model. SEM analysis was used to study the surface morphology of cereal brans after extraction. The results showed that the TPC extraction kinetics was dependent on the K1/2 constant, indicating differences in bran composition and the influence of US pretreatment on the samples.

Summary: The accurate quantification of phenolic compounds in foods relies on the challenging and complex extraction process. Response surface methodology (RSM) has become the preferred analytical approach for optimizing extraction parameters and obtaining the best output. This study applied an RSM-optimized ultrasound-assisted procedure to extract phenolic compounds from artichoke heads and investigated the effects of extraction parameters on the phenolic acid and flavonoid content.

Summary: The wine industry generates a significant amount of grape pomace, which is a waste product that needs proper disposal. Two different technologies, microwave hydrodiffusion and gravity (MHG) and ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE), were used to extract valuable bioactive compounds from grape pomace. The extracts were further purified through solid-phase extraction (SPE) to obtain three fractions, F1, F2, and F3. It was found that F2-MHG and F3-MHG had phenol contents 6.5 and 8.5 times higher than the non-fractionated extracts, respectively.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of ultrasound-assisted (UAE), microwave-assisted (MAE), and ultrasound-microwave-assisted (UMAE) methods on pectin extraction from industrial tomato waste. The best extraction conditions were determined based on a fuzzy analytical method, considering pectin yield, galacturonic acid, and lycopene content. The results showed that UAE conditions with pH 1.5 and solid liquid (SL) ratio 1:30 resulted in high pectin yield and lycopene content. MAE conditions with 300 W power for 10 min yielded high pectin yield and galacturonic acid content. Moreover, the combination of UAE and MAE (UMAE) further improved the pectin yield compared to individual methods. However, the FTIR spectra of the obtained pectins showed similar structures regardless of the extraction technique.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of ultrasound frequency and other process parameters on the extraction yield of total anthocyanins (TA) from purple sweet potatoes (PSPs) using a wide frequency-based ultrasound-assisted extraction (WF-UAE) method. The results showed that ultrasound frequency had the greatest influence on the extraction yield, followed by temperature and treatment time. Optimized parameters resulted in higher TA extraction yield compared to traditional methods. Kinetics models were used to predict and validate the extraction process. The application of WF-UAE technology has potential in extracting active components from various natural materials in the industry.
