Summary: This study analyzed data from AAV patients between 2006 and 2022, and found that ocular manifestations occur in 23.1% of AAV patients, with GPA being the most common form. The most common ocular diseases are conjunctivitis/episcleritis and scleritis. Ocular complications include cataracts and visual impairment. Clinicians should be aware of the wide spectrum of ocular diseases in AAV patients.

Summary: This retrospective case-control study compares the characteristics, treatment, and outcome of isolated ANCA-associated scleritis and idiopathic scleritis with negative ANCA tests. The study found that isolated ANCA-associated scleritis is more common in females and often requires systemic treatment with poorer efficacy. Furthermore, 30.7% of patients with ANCA-associated scleritis progressed to systemic ANCA-associated vasculitis. This highlights the importance of ANCA testing in the diagnosis and treatment of scleritis.

Summary: This study systematically analyzed sex differences in patients with AAV and biopsy-proven ANCA GN, finding that female patients presented at an older age with more joint involvement and exhibited specific sex differences in laboratory parameters and histopathological findings. There were fewer associations between clinical, laboratory parameters, and histopathological findings in females compared to males, indicating the importance of considering sex differences in AAV, particularly ANCA GN.

Summary: Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) is a group of small vessel vasculitides characterized by granulomatous and neutrophilic tissue inflammation, often associated with the production of antibodies that target neutrophil antigens. AAV involves multiple organ systems clinically, including the lungs, kidneys, skin, and nervous system. The prognosis of AAV has significantly improved due to advances in understanding its pathogenesis and treatment options.

Summary: Antineutrophil cytoplasm antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis is a severe multisystem disease that relies on clinical judgment for treatment. There are still many unknowns in the pathogenesis and management of this disease. In recent years, new molecules have been explored to improve treatment outcomes and reduce complications.

Summary: The study found that DPPs tended to involve multi-organ damage rather than being limited to the kidney, compared to anti-GBM disease. The clinical and pathological characteristics of DPPs differed from those of MPO-AAV and anti-GBM disease patients. DPPs had a worse prognosis compared to MPO-AAV and anti-GBM disease patients.

Summary: In this study, the C5a receptor inhibitor avacopan was found to be noninferior to prednisone taper in achieving remission at week 26, but superior in achieving sustained remission at week 52 in patients with ANCA-associated vasculitis. All patients received cyclophosphamide or rituximab. The safety and clinical effects of avacopan beyond 52 weeks were not addressed in the trial.

Summary: Double-positive patients (DPP) with anti-GBM and ANCAs antibodies often present with severe clinical manifestations such as acute kidney failure and alveolar hemorrhage. Immunosuppressive therapy can improve survival rates, and simultaneous testing of both antibodies and renal biopsy should be recommended for all patients with rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis.

Summary: Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is used as an adjunctive intervention for severe renal involvement or lung hemorrhage in patients with ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV). However, the efficacy of TPE in severe AAV remains controversial in the vasculitis medical community, as the largest clinical trial to date failed to demonstrate a clear benefit.

Summary: Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis (AAV) is a group of diseases characterized by inflammation and destruction of small and medium-sized blood vessels. Environmental factors such as silica exposure and air pollution are risk factors for AAV. This review summarizes the recent literature on the study of environmental factors, including seasonal variations, air pollution, latitude, silica, and microbial infection, in AAV, aiming to explore their relationship and possible mechanisms of action.

Summary: This study investigated the phenotypic characteristics of patients with ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) associated with aneurysms. It found that aneurysms were more frequently observed in granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) patients and predominantly affected medium-sized vessels, especially the renal arteries. Aneurysmal rupture occurred in 43% of patients, with those experiencing rupture having higher baseline pulmonary infiltrates and creatinine levels compared to those without rupture.

Summary: The objective of this study is to investigate the prognostic value of baseline HRCT in EGPA patients. Abnormal parenchymal findings were observed in a high proportion of patients. Patients were divided into three groups based on HRCT characteristics, with group 1 having the worst prognosis and group 2 having the best prognosis. It is concluded that chest HRCT at diagnosis of EGPA may have prognostic value and aid in the management of these patients.

Summary: In this study, we report the first emergence of dual resistance to levofloxacin and rifampin in C. avidum in vivo, in a patient who received both antibiotics orally during salvage debridement and implant retention of an ODRI. Summary: This study compared disease characteristics between primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) patients of African ancestry and Caucasian ancestry. The results showed that patients of African ancestry had younger age at diagnosis, higher titre of gammaglobulins, higher rates of positive anti-SSA and anti-RNP antibodies, and more frequent systemic complications. Factors associated with disease activity were sub-Saharan African ancestry, rheumatoid factor, and anti-RNP positivity. In conclusion, patients of African ancestry displayed higher disease activity with increased B-cell activation.

Summary: Epidemiological studies have shown a link between certain infections and an increased risk of developing psychiatric disorders. These infections can activate retro-transposable genetic elements (HERV), which in turn impact immune receptors and synaptic plasticity. Recent research has found an association between the HERV-W ENV protein and pro-inflammatory cytokines in patients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. The COVID-19 pandemic's influence on patients with psychosis spectrum disorders (PSD) was investigated, revealing a high prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in PSD patients, with HERV-W ENV detected only in seropositive individuals. SARS-CoV-2 infection and HERV-W ENV positivity were found to co-cluster with high levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in psychotic patients. These findings suggest a dominant influence of the virus on HERV-W ENV and cytokine expression, and the need for further investigation into the interplay between viral infection and the clinical evolution of PSD patients.
