Summary: This study examined the association between vitamin D levels and cardiometabolic risk markers in children and adolescents, stratified by BMI category. The results showed that low vitamin D concentrations were associated with unfavorable levels of cardiometabolic markers. Therefore, early interventions to improve vitamin D levels may help reduce cardiometabolic risk in children and adolescents.

Summary: Due to the lipophilic nature of vitamin D, overweight and obese patients have an increased risk of inadequate circulating 25-hydroxy-vitamin D concentrations. Although supplementation strategies of vitamin D for pediatric subjects with excessive body weight have been proposed, the efficacy remains controversial. This systematic review and meta-analysis found that vitamin D supplementation slightly increases 25-hydroxy-vitamin D levels in overweight and obese children and adolescents, but its effects on metabolic and cardiovascular outcomes remain controversial.

Summary: This study analyzed the association between vitamin D deficiency and cardiometabolic risk factors in adolescents and found that vitamin D deficiency is associated with increased risk of high blood pressure, high blood glucose, high insulin, insulin resistance, high triglyceride levels, and low HDL cholesterol levels. However, no significant association was found for glycated hemoglobin, LDL cholesterol, and total cholesterol.

Summary: This meta-analysis investigated the association between vitamin D supplementation and the risk of stroke. The results showed that additional vitamin D supplementation did not reduce the risk of stroke. The study suggests that further randomized controlled trials of similar design should not be encouraged to assess any association between vitamin D supplementation and reduced stroke risk.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the relationship between oral vitamin D supplementation and changes in body weight measures in children and adolescents. The results suggest that vitamin D supplementation leads to a significant decrease in body mass index (BMI) in this population. However, there is no significant effect on body weight and other anthropometric indices. Further high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed for more conclusive evidence.

Summary: This study, which analyzed data from multiple randomized controlled trials, found that vitamin D supplementation has limited benefits for bone density in healthy children and adolescents, regardless of their baseline vitamin D levels.

Summary: The combination of vitamin D and calcium has a beneficial effect in preventing falls among elderly individuals, particularly those with 25(OH)D levels lower than 50 nmol/L. Vitamin D supplementation alone does not reduce the risk of falls in elderly individuals with 25(OH)D levels higher than 50 nmol/L.

Summary: The clinical effects of vitamin D supplementation for childhood asthma are still unclear. Although vitamin D supplementation significantly increases serum vitamin D levels, it does not have any benefit for asthma control.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of polymorphisms in the vitamin D receptor gene on the response to vitamin D supplementation through a systematic review and meta-analysis. The results suggest that the TaqI and FokI polymorphisms may play a role in modulating the response to vitamin D supplementation.

Summary: This study found no significant association between vitamin D supplementation or vitamin D status during pregnancy and congenital anomalies (CAs) in the offspring. However, the interpretation of the results should be cautious due to the limitations of the current studies.

Summary: Vitamin D supplementation can reduce the risk of asthma exacerbations, especially in children and patients with a follow-up time of less than 6 months. Furthermore, it can improve lung function in patients with a baseline FEV1 value below 70%.

Summary: A meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the impact of oral vitamin D supplementation on serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels in healthy adults in Europe. The findings suggest that vitamin D supplementation can significantly increase serum 25(OH)D levels, with the effect influenced by dosage and baseline serum levels.

Summary: The clinical research results on vitamin D supplementation in improving prediabetes are controversial. However, this meta-analysis found that supplementing with vitamin D led to significant improvements in FBG, HbA1c, and FINS among prediabetics. Subgroup analysis showed that certain populations, such as those in Asia and individuals with vitamin D deficiency, may benefit more from long-term vitamin D supplementation in terms of glucose metabolism and insulin resistance.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized-controlled trials found that vitamin D supplementation can significantly improve serum vitamin D levels, ESR, and CRP levels in patients with ulcerative colitis. Different doses and durations of vitamin D intervention have varying effects. However, due to the low quality of included studies, more high-quality research is needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: This meta-analysis examined the effects of vitamin D supplementation on bone turnover markers (BTMs) in adults. The results showed that vitamin D administration can decrease the levels of specific BTMs, but no significant effect was observed on other BTMs.
