Summary: We demonstrated the production of silicon quantum dots (SiQDs) with bright photoluminescence (PL) through electrochemical etching process. The photoluminescence intensity of functionalized porous silicon (PSi) was studied over time. Stable surface-modified SiQD dispersions were obtained by thermally induced hydrosilylation with octadecene. Different concentrations of SiQDs were applied on Si solar cells (SiSCs) and perovskite solar cells (PSCs) to enhance their performance. The optimal sample showed an increase in current density from 37.4 to 39.2 mA/cm(2) and an increase in external quantum efficiency (EQE) to 98% in the visible spectrum region. The application of SiQDs on different solar cells reduced their reflectivity and improved their power conversion efficiency (PCE) by 0.81% for SiSCs and 0.61% for PSCs. Additionally, SiQDs on the surface of SiSCs and PSCs reduced their PCE loss by 0.11% and 0.62%, respectively, when exposed to intense radiation in a UV aging chamber.

Summary: Despite the unique properties of graphene, its widespread use in applications such as digital electronics is restricted by certain inherent characteristics. This study investigates the use of ordered organic layers on graphene to tune its electronic band structure. The self-assembled molecular architectures of dibenzyl viologen on graphene surfaces are examined under electrochemical control. The results show different architectures corresponding to different redox states of the molecules, and the phase transition is controlled by the electrode potential. These findings offer a potential approach to functionalize graphene and other two-dimensional materials.

Summary: This paper investigates the formation of a bismuth ferrite (BFO) film on a polymeric flexible polyimide substrate using low temperature atomic layer deposition (ALD) at 250 degrees C. Two samples of BFO/Polyimide with different thicknesses (42 nm, 77 nm) were examined. Increasing film thickness led to the formation of a crystalline BFO phase with magnetic and electrical properties characteristic of a multiferroic material. The competition between the magnetic and electrical subsystems resulted in an anomalous magnetization behavior at a temperature of 200 K, possibly related to the multiferroic/polymer interface. This paper explores the potential of low-temperature growth of BFO films on organic materials as structural components for flexible and quantum electronics.

Summary: The surface composition of magnetite nanoparticles, bare and functionalized with citrate, was investigated using XPS and ToF-SIMS. The results showed that the oxide composition was not modified by the citrate functionalization. The amount of citrate ions adsorbed on the surface was independent of the functionalization procedure. The citrate shell was found to be a single layer that only partially covered the nanoparticle surface. Additionally, the presence of ammonia molecules from the Fe(II) salt used in the nanoparticle preparation was detected.

Summary: This study prepared monodispersed spherical nanoparticles of red amorphous elemental Se (SeNPs) using green tea and Pu-Erh tea crude polysaccharides as templats. The SeNPs exhibited significant proliferative inhibition on human carcinoma cells but low toxicity to human normal cells. The PTCPs showed stronger stabilizing effects and higher electrostatic stability on those SeNPs compared to GTCPs. In addition, tea crude polysaccharides were found a better stabilizer and functional decorator of SeNPs compared to the purified polysaccharides.

Summary: Crosslinking affects the mechanical behavior and tissue metabolism of collagen-based tissues. Aging and diabetes alter the crosslinking type and density, thus changing tissue properties. High-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking and advanced-glycation end-products result in uniform deformation under daily activity, while low-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking does not. High-connectivity model displays more sliding, while AGEs induce instability in structures near the binding sites.
