Summary: The purpose of this study was to develop and conduct initial psychometric analyses on the Protective Behavioral Strategies for Vaping (PBSV) scale to measure strategies that college students use to protect themselves from vaping-related harms. The results suggest that the use of protective strategies is associated with reduced vaping frequency and dependence among college students.

Summary: Alcohol use is common among college students, with some at risk for alcohol use disorders. Protective behavioral strategies (PBS) are used by many students to avoid negative consequences, but there are gender differences in PBS use. Certain items in PBS show significant sex differences, suggesting the need for sex-specific norms in PBS measurement and analysis.

Summary: This study identified student characteristics associated with using protective behavioral strategies (PBS) to reduce harms when consuming alcohol. Attitudes toward alcohol in college life, Greek life participation, and sensation seeking were consistently associated with PBS use. Specific resources may be needed to encourage high sensation seeking students and those who believe alcohol is a part of college life to use PBS.

Summary: This research aimed to explore the factor structure of PBSS and found a higher-order PBS factor. Validation results showed that the higher-order PBS factor was associated with certain first-order factors, and first-order PBS factors had different effects on reducing excessive alcohol use.

Summary: Protective Behavioral Strategies for Marijuana (PBSM) have been found to be negatively correlated with cannabis use frequency and severity of dependence among adolescent and young adult users. PBSM significantly moderates the effect of routine motives on the severity of dependence, but only a few cases who extensively use PBSM are affected.

Summary: Concurrent use of alcohol and cannabis among college students is common and poses greater risks. Protective behavioral strategies (PBS) used before, during, after, or instead of alcohol and cannabis use have been shown to minimize harms. However, little is known about the relationship between alcohol and cannabis PBS and their joint influence on harms among college students.

Summary: The study found that more frequent use of alcohol protective behavioral strategies can reduce the positive associations between risk factors and alcohol-related problems. However, the lack of specificity in these interaction effects calls for comprehensive testing with larger samples to validate interactions effects reported in single studies.

Summary: The studies indicate that individuals with certain at-risk personality traits are less likely to use protective behavioral strategies, potentially leading to increased problematic alcohol use. However, anxiety sensitivity is positively related to alcohol-related harms, but the use of protective behavioral strategies acts as a protective factor against problematic alcohol use.

Summary: Cyberbullying is linked to increased risk of suicidal and self-harm behaviors in children and adolescents. Research has identified various risk factors, while fewer studies focus on protective factors. More research is needed to explore prevention strategies and evaluate the impacts of different forms of cyberbullying.

Summary: This study developed a scale called the Protective Strategies for Psychedelics Scale (PSPS) to assess the protective strategies employed during psychedelic use. The results showed that the PSPS has good internal reliability and convergent validity, providing a foundation for future validation of the scale in diverse samples.

Summary: Approximately 1 in 4 participants reported using cannabis for harm reduction at least once during the study period. The most frequent reasons included substituting for stimulants (50%) and substituting for illicit opioids (31%). The use of cannabis for harm reduction is a common strategy among people who use drugs in the setting.

Summary: This paper examines the causal impact of poverty reduction interventions on the social preferences of the poor. Using a fuzzy regression discontinuity design, the study analyzes a multifaceted poverty reduction program in China. The results show that the program not only increased household income by 50% after five years, but also influenced the distributional preferences of household heads, leading to increased consistency with utility maximization, increased efficiency preference, reduced selfishness, and unchanged equality preference. This study contributes to understanding social preference formation and provides a broader perspective on evaluating poverty reduction interventions.

Summary: Problematic online behaviors, such as sexting, cyberbullying, and Internet gaming disorder (IGD), were found to be associated with an increased risk of self-harm among adolescents. Among these behaviors, sexting was identified as the most robust risk factor for self-harm. To prevent self-harm among adolescents, it is crucial to identify youth involved in problematic online behaviors, particularly sexting.

Summary: The study found that participants with a history of regretted sexual experiences reported heightened symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, and suicidal ideation in the past month. A similar pattern was observed for problematic alcohol use, with those who had experienced sexual regret engaging in more problematic alcohol use. Additionally, individuals with a history of sexual regret also utilized fewer protective behavioral strategies compared to those without such a history. Understanding these dynamics could provide valuable insights for mental health prevention initiatives and intervention strategies for individuals who have experienced sexual regret.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between primary and secondary psychopathy and problematic gambling, as well as the mechanisms involved in these relationships. The results showed that secondary psychopathy, through urgency, strongly predicts whether an individual will experience gambling problems, while primary psychopathy, through protective behavioral strategies, better predicts the number of gambling problems one experiences.

Summary: This study explored the effects of mood and attentional bias on alcohol craving, and the role of biological sex in these relationships. The results showed that positive and negative moods were positively associated with momentary craving, and attentional bias operated differently between men and women. The findings highlight the importance and nuances of considering biological sex in the context of mood, attentional bias, and craving.
