Summary: Our understanding of pregnancy in women with kidney diseases has improved, but there is little knowledge about specific kidney diseases. Glomerular diseases are a common cause of chronic kidney disease in young women and pose challenges in pregnancy due to immunologic diseases, hypertension, proteinuria, and kidney tissue damage. A review of current literature and expert opinions on glomerular diseases in pregnancy was conducted, providing practical information for nephrologists. This work highlights areas of uncertainty and the need for further collaborative studies to improve maternal and fetal health.

Summary: ADHD is a neurobehavioral condition affecting 5-10% of school-age children and 2-5% of adults. Stimulant medications like methylphenidate and amphetamines may have potential risks in pregnancy, while bupropion as an antidepressant seems to be safer. Limited data is available on the effects of ADHD medications on pregnancy and long-term neurodevelopment in children.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between psychotropic medication use during pregnancy and gestational age at delivery, while adjusting for depressive symptom and perceived stress severity. The results showed that women using psychotropic medications had a shorter gestational age at delivery, regardless of their depressive symptoms or perceived stress levels. The data suggest that this association is not confounded by indication.

Summary: In recent years, there have been few studies focusing on the use and abuse of Benzodiazepines (BZDs) in sports. This article presents two clinical cases of elite endurance athletes who started using BZDs to address insomnia, recover faster, and manage muscle pain, highlighting that their sports doctors were unaware of the addictive properties of these drugs and failed to gradually reduce the dosage. The article aims to provide guidelines specifically for sports medicine physicians to manage situations involving BZD prescription, addiction recognition, and intervention strategies.

Summary: Valproate, a broad-spectrum antiepileptic drug, is particularly effective in certain types of epilepsy syndromes. The European Medicines Agency introduced new restrictions on its use in females of childbearing potential, leading to controversy and debate. Limited information on the teratogenic potential of alternative treatments presents challenges in the clinical management of pregnant women and women of childbearing age.

Summary: The continuous improvement in cancer care over the past decade has led to a gradual decrease in cancer-related deaths. This is largely attributed to improved treatment and disease management strategies. Early detection of recurrence using blood-based biomarkers such as circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) is being increasingly used in clinical practice.

Summary: The relationship between drugs and microbiota is two-way. The proper composition and function of microbiota are key factors for some medications used in modern medicine. On the other hand, pharmacotherapeutic agents can significantly modify the microbiota, which in turn affects its function. A recent study revealed that nearly 25% of drugs administered to humans have antimicrobial effects. Multiple antidepressants have antimicrobial properties, and there are antibiotics with proven antidepressant effects. Additionally, antibiotics can cause mental phenotype changes, and some antibiotics have adverse effects including neurological and psychological symptoms, supporting the hypothesis that intestinal microbiota may affect the function of the central nervous system. We have comprehensively collected data on psychiatric drugs and their antimicrobial properties, which we believe has strong implications for the treatment of psychiatric entities. However, our study also highlights the need for more well-designed trials to analyze the function of gut microbiota.

Summary: As life expectancy increases for cancer patients, survivorship has become a crucial aspect of breast cancer care. Adequate contraceptive counseling is important for premenopausal breast cancer patients who do not wish to become pregnant. This study examined contraceptive use and methods in early breast cancer patients and identified factors associated with contraceptive use over time. The findings highlight the importance of raising awareness and providing targeted contraceptive counseling for premenopausal women with early breast cancer.

Summary: This study analyzed the time trends in coronary procedures, guideline-based drugs, and mortality following acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in patients with and without bipolar disorder (BD). The results showed that patients with BD and ACS received fewer coronary angiography and redeemed fewer prescriptions of guideline-based drugs compared to the control group. The treatment gap remained unchanged for PCI and CABG, and the mortality risk ratio for patients with BD experiencing ACS remained constant over the study period.

Summary: This study explores how parents reconstruct and negotiate their parental identity after realizing that their offspring is suicidal. Through interviews with 21 Danish parents, it is found that parents' perspectives on their parental identity can be conceptualized as a moral career consisting of three distinct stages. These stages are negotiated through social interaction and play a crucial role in the re-construction of parental identity and sense of agency.

Summary: The study aimed to compare the frequency of grade >3 FP-TOX before and after the implementation of DPYD genotyping. The results showed that the overall frequency of grade >3 FP-TOX was 27% in the DPYD genotype-guided group compared to 24% in the historical cohort. DPYD genotyping reduced the frequency of FP-related hospitalization from 19% to 0% in DPYD variant carriers. In wild-type patients, those with uracil >16 ng/mL had a higher frequency of FP-TOX than those with uracil <16 ng/mL.

Summary: This study explores how participants develop and display feelings of ownership during a collaborative process to design a website. The findings reveal that participants' sense of ownership goes through two distinct and overlapping phases. In the first phase, only researchers and the website designer display a sense of ownership, facilitated by the research context. In the second phase, service users gradually develop a sense of ownership through workshop design activities, enabling them to control the process and gain intimate knowledge of the outcome. The sense of ownership is displayed in their statements about the website.
