Summary: This study found that MELD 3.0 scores beyond 40 are associated with increasing waitlist mortality without adversely affecting posttransplant outcomes. Uncapping the MELD score for waitlist candidates may lead to greater survival benefits from liver transplantation.

Summary: The study shows that LDLT is comparable to DDLT in terms of graft survival for high-MELD liver transplantation. Biliary complications are more common in LDLT group while viral infection, postoperative uncontrolled ascites, and postoperative hemodialysis are more common in DDLT group. Acute chronic liver failure, intraoperative RBC transfusion, and early postoperative complications are risk factors for graft failure in LDLT group.

Summary: The study retrospectively analyzed 726 renal transplant recipients converted to sirolimus, showing lower cancer incidence rates after conversion. Patients with prior malignancy were older but had lower cancer rates after conversion. Renal function and graft survival were better in all cancer types compared to patients converted to sirolimus without cancers. Patient survival was largely dependent on tumor entity.

Summary: Universal health coverage in Indonesia has made hemodialysis services more accessible, but patient adherence to hemodialysis schedules remains a challenge. Factors such as education level and self-care behaviors play a significant role in attendance rates. Moreover, health literacy among hemodialysis patients needs to be improved to ensure better treatment outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the influence of demographic and laboratory parameters on the survival of patients with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) in a hemodialysis center in Iran. The results showed that male gender, hypercalcemia, and hypoparathyroidism were associated with worse outcomes. Correcting these laboratory parameters may improve patients' survival in the hemodialysis population.

Summary: A retrospective multicenter study was conducted to assess the impact of post-Living Kidney Donation (LKD) pregnancy on the long-term outcomes of the mono-kidney and the mother. The study found that post-LKD pregnancies did not significantly affect kidney function, although a higher incidence of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy was observed. However, fetal outcomes were not compromised. These findings suggest that a pregnancy wish alone should not be a reason to exclude women from LKD.

Summary: This study explores the interpretation of MS-targeted nutrition messages using semi-structured interviews. The findings reveal that dietary changes made by patients with MS after diagnosis are a coping mechanism to address uncertainty, fear of disease progression, and the risk of relapse. The admiration and skepticism towards extremist MS diets depend on individual vulnerability and support from healthcare professionals. The unique MS journey influences the interpretation of the messages, driven by engagement, practicality, and credibility.

Summary: This study examined how language choices made by call handlers affect the progress of complaint calls and the stance of the callers. The findings showed that displaying affiliation at relevant moments in the conversation helps advance the call and de-escalate the complaint, while the absence or misplacement of affiliation may lead to escalation. Early intervention in establishing affiliation with the caller's concerns and reasoning is crucial for de-escalation.

Summary: This study examined the impact of racial differences on patient trust and distrust in physician-patient interactions through audio-recorded cardiologist-patient encounters. The results showed that Black patients had lower expressions of trust and a higher level of guardedness compared to White patients. It suggests that White clinicians can improve communication with Black patients to increase expressions of trust.

Summary: This paper aims to understand the facilitators and barriers perceived by general practice physicians in initiating anticipatory guidance around firearm safety. Qualitative interviews were conducted with 18 GPs to explore their perspectives. Barriers to providing secure firearm storage counseling include inadequate screening mechanisms, limited understanding of who is at risk for firearm injury, time pressures, concerns about patient receptivity, and a need for training. Structural issues need to be addressed before focusing on how to have conversations about firearm safety.

Summary: This study aims to explore the perspectives and needs of healthcare professionals (HCPs) and patients regarding the use of outcome data in consultations. The findings indicate that HCPs do not routinely use aggregated outcome data in consultations due to various barriers. Summary: This study summarizes the recent evidence on the feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness of videoconference group-based patient and caregiver education. The results suggest that this education approach is highly feasible and acceptable, and may improve health outcomes for participants. However, the evidence of effectiveness is limited and the quality of studies varies.
