Summary: This study investigated the feasibility and safety of low intraabdominal pressure and deep neuromuscular blockade for metabolic laparoscopic surgery. The results showed that the combination of moderate NMB and low IAP may lead to insufficient surgical overview, suggesting the need for larger trials to corroborate the findings.

Summary: This study found that preoperative anxiety in patients undergoing laparoscopic hysterectomy is influenced by occupation and surgical experience, with patients experiencing higher preoperative anxiety also reporting greater postoperative pain. Dexmedetomidine combined with sufentanil can improve postoperative analgesia management.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the effects of deep neuromuscular blockade (NMB) compared to moderate blockade on surgical conditions and postoperative pain in gynecologic laparoscopic surgery. The results showed that patients in the deep NMB group experienced less postoperative pain and required less analgesic consumption compared to the moderate NMB group. However, there was no significant difference in surgical field scores between the two groups.

Summary: Although low-pressure laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LPLC) compromised intra-operative visibility and required increased pressure in some cases, it resulted in a significant reduction in fentanyl requirement and higher incidence of nausea and vomiting. Although pain scores were comparable, LPLC appears to be safe and beneficial for all patients.

Summary: This study compared the AirSeal insufflation system with the standard insufflation system in terms of postoperative abdominal pain after laparoscopic hysterectomy. The results showed that the use of the AirSeal system with low-pressure pneumoperitoneum did not reduce postoperative abdominal and scapular pain in benign cases.

Summary: Deep neuromuscular blockade has the potential to improve surgical conditions, reduce intraoperative pneumoperitoneum pressure, pain, and complications. However, whether this improvement leads to better clinical outcomes remains inconclusive, and further research is needed to establish the relationship definitively.

Summary: Intraoperative deep neuromuscular blockade did not have a significant impact on postoperative atelectasis compared to moderate neuromuscular blockade as long as full reversal was verified. The differences in atelectasis between the two groups may be influenced by factors not accounted for in the study.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of extremely low-pressure pneumoperitoneum (ELPP) compared to standard pressure pneumoperitoneum (SPP) on postoperative pain, shoulder pain, and physiological changes during single-site robotic cholecystectomy (SSRC). The results showed that the ELPP group had lower postoperative pain scores, fewer patients with shoulder pain, and less intraoperative changes in lung function.

Summary: In this study, the authors aimed to determine the usefulness of a comprehensive perioperative point-of-care ultrasonography assessment in patients undergoing major laparoscopic urologic surgery. They found that combining arterial and venous Doppler patterns can predict postoperative complications and acute kidney injury, providing a non-invasive method for risk stratification.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the reoperation rate for recurrence in laparoscopic ventral hernia repair using different mesh types. The nationwide cohort study analyzed data from the Danish Ventral Hernia Database. The results showed that Physiomesh and Proceed Surgical Mesh had a significantly higher risk of reoperation for recurrence in primary hernias; for incisional hernias, Physiomesh, Parietex Composite, Ventralex Hernia Patch, and Proceed Surgical Mesh all had a significantly higher risk compared with Ventralight ST Mesh.

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine the length of bowel specimens and assess the impact of certain characteristics. Data from medical records of patients who underwent right hemicolectomy for cancer were collected, and it was found that the length of the terminal ileum specimen varied and was positively correlated with BMI. Additionally, the length of colon specimens differed naturally depending on the cancer location.

Summary: This scoping review included 65 biomarkers from 52 studies, involving 14,312 patients. Routine biomarkers had poor diagnostic accuracy, with sensitivity ranging from 15% to 100% and specificity between 27% and 100%. Novel biomarkers are still in the early stage of study and lack accuracy and cost-benefit analysis.

Summary: This double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized study investigated whether melatonin can protect against radiation dermatitis in women receiving radiation therapy for primary breast cancer. The results showed no difference in RTOG-scores and pixel analyses at 2 weeks follow-up between the melatonin and placebo groups. However, the melatonin group demonstrated a protective effect based on RTOG-scores over the entire duration of the study.
