Summary: The study demonstrated that co-treatment with RES and FGF1 significantly inhibited DOX-induced hepatic inflammation and apoptosis, while also markedly suppressing DOX-induced hepatic oxidative stress via targeting the AMPK/NRF2 pathway. This combination may provide a new therapeutic strategy for limiting DOX-induced hepatotoxicity.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the toxic effects of the insecticide acetamiprid and the protective effects of the natural antioxidant berberine in rat liver tissue. The results showed that acetamiprid exposure induced oxidative stress and structural changes in liver tissue, while berberine reduced this toxicity and exhibited antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects.

Summary: Recent evidences have shown that the release of aluminum oxide nanoparticles (Al2O3-NPs) may pose a risk to the environment and cause adverse effects on living organisms. This study investigated the hepatotoxic effects of Al2O3-NPs on developing chicken embryos and cell cultures. The results revealed that exposure to Al2O3-NPs caused abnormal liver histology, increased tissue damage markers, oxidative stress, impaired antioxidant enzyme function, abnormal red blood cell morphology, and enhanced apoptosis. Additionally, novel mechanisms and prevention strategies were explored.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of punicalagin on methotrexate-induced hepatotoxicity. The results showed that punicalagin can alleviate the damage caused by methotrexate, inhibit oxidative damage, inflammation, and apoptosis, and enhance antioxidant defenses. These findings suggest that punicalagin may have therapeutic potential for the prevention of methotrexate-induced hepatotoxicity.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanisms of fibrin polymerization and cross-linking in acute liver injury induced by acetaminophen overdose. It was found that deficiency in FXIII dramatically reduced fibrin(ogen) cross-linking, while the impact on fibrin(ogen) deposition and cross-linking was less significant in Fib(AEK) mice. The presence of oxidative mediators in the injured liver was proposed as a factor affecting fibrin polymerization without affecting FXIII-mediated cross-linking.

Summary: We developed an improved in vitro transfection assay for testing the efficiency of non-viral vector DNA nanoparticle transfection of primary hepatocytes. The assay was optimized for cell plating number, DNA dose, and PEI to DNA ratio, and provides reliable in vitro expression results for direct comparison of different non-viral gene delivery vectors.

Summary: The liver is a highly mitochondrial-rich organ that plays a crucial role in various metabolic processes. Mitochondrial dysfunction is associated with liver diseases, particularly fatty liver disease. Acute fatty liver of pregnancy (AFLP) is a life-threatening liver disorder unique to pregnant women, and its pathogenesis has been linked to mitochondrial dysfunction and fetal fatty-acid oxidation defects. This review provides an overview of AFLP and mitochondrial fatty-acid oxidation, highlighting the importance of altered mitochondrial function in the development of AFLP.

Summary: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a global pandemic strongly associated with metabolic syndromes. Metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is suggested as a more appropriate term to describe the disease, emphasizing the role of metabolic dysfunction. Mitochondrial dysfunction plays a significant role in NAFLD development and targeting mitochondria shows promise for drug development.
