Summary: This study compared the preoperative conditions and postoperative outcomes of living-donor lobar lung transplantation (LDLLT) and cadaveric lung transplantation (CLT) in patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH). Despite LDLLT patients having worse preoperative conditions and smaller grafts, LDLLT demonstrated similar perioperative outcomes and prognoses as CLT.

Summary: LDLLT is a vital option for patients with severe respiratory disorders, developed to address the shortage of brain-dead donor organs. Precise size matching before surgery can lead to better post-transplant outcomes, with low risk to living donors. Various transplant procedures, such as native upper lobe sparing and single-lobe transplantation, have been developed in LDLLT to address issues of graft size mismatching and have shown favorable results.

Summary: Dyskeratosis congenita (DC) is a rare genetic syndrome caused by mutations in telomerase or telomeric proteins. Research shows that zebrafish terc plays a crucial role in regulating the expression of master myeloid genes, while mutations found in DC patients affect this process.

Summary: Living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) is more common in Asia than in North America, where living donor kidney transplantation, including paired exchanges for ABO-incompatible pairs, is prevalent. The first liver paired exchange (LPE) in the United States, completed over two consecutive days, was initiated by a non-directed donor and benefited an ABO-incompatible pair. This innovative approach demonstrates the feasibility of LPE in centers with experience in LDLT, offering new possibilities for transplantation in cases of ABO incompatibility.

Summary: This study evaluated the course of liver regeneration after living donor hepatectomy using routine and regeneration-related biomarkers. The results showed that regenerative markers increased in a sustained fashion following the surgery, especially in right-lobe grafts, indicating progenitor-associated liver regeneration.

Summary: This study aims to establish benchmark values for adult-to-adult living-donor liver transplantation (LDLT). By analyzing data from 15 high-volume centers, it was found that benchmark LDLT can reduce waitlist mortality, with Asian centers outperforming others and non-benchmark low-volume centers displaying inferior outcomes.

Summary: In this paper, the authors investigate the effects of dyskerin depletion on cellular physiology and reveal that dyskerin depletion induces the accumulation of unfolded/misfolded proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum and activates the PERK branch of the unfolded protein response. They also demonstrate that dyskerin downregulation triggers a functional autophagic flux through the inhibition of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway.

Summary: This study evaluated the pathological findings associated with radiological PPFE-like lesions and the clinical and morphological features of patients with pathological PPFE. The results showed that pathological PPFE was related to previous pneumothorax, volume loss in the upper lobes, and a flattened chest. Patients with idiopathic disease and those with secondary disease with pathological PPFE had similar clinical, radiological, and pathological findings. However, fibroblastic foci were more common in idiopathic cases and alveolar septal thickening with elastosis or fibrosis were more common in secondary cases. The post-transplantation survival of patients with pathological PPFE was similar to those with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

Summary: This article reports successful cases of lung transplantation using ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) to evaluate the function of injured donor lungs. After being declined by other transplant centers, the lungs were offered to patients at the authors' hospital. The outcomes of the two cases suggest that EVLP may expand the pool of acceptable donor lungs for transplantation.

Summary: By analyzing registered lung transplant patients, the study found that a decline of more than 10% in lung function within 6 months and a 6-minute walking distance of less than 250m were associated with a worse prognosis (death or living-donor lobar LT). The ISHLT criteria could appropriately identify ILD patients with potentially poor prognosis.

Summary: The objective of this study was to investigate the depletion of mononuclear phagocytes and the attenuation of ischemia-reperfusion injury by clodronate-liposome during ex vivo lung perfusion. The experiments determined the number of mononuclear phagocytes in flushed grafts using flow cytometry and administered clodronate-liposome into the perfusate during ex vivo lung perfusion. The results showed a significant reduction in the number of mononuclear phagocytes in the clodronate group, improved lung function, and reduced lung injury.

Summary: This study developed a wireless localization technique for fluoroscopically invisible small lung lesions and compared two marking approaches with or without cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). The results showed that electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy-guided radiofrequency identification marking provided a high tumor resection rate with sufficient surgical margins. The use of CBCT for marking resulted in a shorter distance from the marker to the lesion.
