The objective of the study is to examine the long-run and causal relationship between environmental logistics performance indicators (ELPI) and growth-specific factors in a panel of 15 selected global ranked logistics countries over a period of 2007-2015. This study is exclusive as we utilized a number of LPI factors including logistics performance, logistics competence, and logistics infrastructure with mediation of sustainable factors, i.e., carbon dioxide (CO2), fossil fuel, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in a region. The results show that the per capita income, industry, manufacturing, and service share to GDP is affected by CO2 emissions and GHG emissions. Logistics competence and infrastructure promote economic growth and sectoral value added, while energy demand and FDI inflows both are prerequisite for sustainable agriculture in a region. The causal relationships confirm that more energy demand results in an increase in economic growth, industry value added, and the service sector (i.e., feedback hypothesis), while the sustainable supply chain system improves energy demand, FDI inflows, economic growth, and sectoral growth (i.e., conservation hypothesis) in a panel of countries.

The role of carbon pricing in the relationship between air freight and environmental resource depletion: a case study of Saudi Arabia

Muhammad Khalid Anser, Zahid Yousaf, Abdelmohsen A. Nassani, Muhammad Moinuddin Qazi Abro, Khalid Zaman

Summary: This study focuses on the mediation of carbon pricing between air freight and environmental resource depletion in Saudi Arabia. Using time series data from 1970 to 2017, the study finds that in the short term, air freight has negative impacts on natural resources, while in the long term, both positive and negative shocks of air freight deplete the country's environmental resources. The study also reveals an inverted U-shaped relationship between initial economic growth and natural resource depletion, which disappears in the long term. Furthermore, there is a positive relationship between foreign direct investment inflows and natural resource depletion in the short term, supporting the pollution haven hypothesis. However, in the long term, carbon pricing advances the natural resource market and supports the country's environmental sustainability agenda. It is important to develop sustainable air freight policies to address environmental concerns.

Evolutionary game of end-of-life vehicle recycling groups under government regulation

Zhang Yu, Ma Tianshan, S. Abdul Rehman, Arshian Sharif, Laeeq Janjua

Summary: This paper studies the competition between illegal recycling groups and legitimate recycling groups in the end-of-life vehicle recycling market. By building an evolutionary game model, the authors investigate the long-term evolutionary characteristics of the two groups in different contexts. The study also examines how government policies affect the evolution of legal recyclers and the government's revenue. The research findings suggest that relying solely on penalty policies for illegal recycling is insufficient to improve the evolutionary stable state, and increasing subsidies and penalties for both legal and illegal recycling may decrease government revenue.

Synthesis, in vitro biological screening and docking study of benzo[d]oxazole bis Schiff base derivatives as a potent anti-Alzheimer agent

Muhammad Taha, Fazal Rahim, Khalid Zaman, El Hassane Anouar, Nizam Uddin, Faisal Nawaz, Muhammad Sajid, Khalid Mohammed Khan, Adnan Ali Shah, Abdul Wadood, Ashfaq Ur Rehman, Amani H. Alhibshi

Summary: A series of benzo[d]oxazole derivatives were synthesized through a multistep reaction, with the alteration in structure being made via the use of various substituted aromatic aldehydes. These derivatives were evaluated for their inhibitory potential against acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase enzymes. Derivative 18 showed the most promising inhibitory potential and its binding interaction with the enzyme's active gorge was confirmed through a docking study. The structural confirmation of all derivatives was done using spectroscopic techniques such as H-1-NMR, C-13-NMR, and HREI-MS.

Re-investigating the impact of non-renewable and renewable energy on environmental quality: A roadmap towards sustainable development

Syed Abdul Rehman Khan, Hafiz Muhammad Zia-Ul-Haq, Pablo Ponce, Laeeq Janjua

Summary: Over the last decade, Sub-Saharan Africa has experienced significant economic development as one of the key areas for energy resources and minerals in the global market. The countries in this region are actively working to meet emission objectives and reduce climate change through policy initiatives. This research examines the role of renewable and non-renewable energy sources, as well as economic factors, in determining environmental quality in 41 Sub-Saharan countries from 2004 to 2021. The findings suggest that renewable energy improves environmental quality, while fossil fuel consumption degrades it. Additionally, human capital, technologies, and digitalization contribute to carbon emissions. Policymakers should focus on minimizing future carbon emissions, promoting renewable sources, and raising public awareness for sustainable development.

Zhang Yu, Ibrahim Lanre Ridwan, Ateeq Ur Rehman Irshad, Muhammad Tanveer, Syed Abdul Rehman Khan

Summary: The global economy has experienced significant growth in recent decades due to the increasing interconnectedness among countries through the exchange of goods and services. This study investigates the effects of transportation infrastructure, economic growth, and renewable energy on crude oil imports, using the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model. The empirical results show that renewable energy hinders crude oil importation, while transportation stimulates it in both economies. Economic growth plays a substantial role only in China, and foreign direct investment and industrialization are fundamental in driving crude oil imports. The study concludes that other factors contribute to crude oil dependence in China and India, and suggests the promotion of renewable energy as a viable policy decision to address the growth of oil dependence in these countries.
