The evaluation of the sequential ball end milling-burnishing process on curved surfaces showed that the application of burnishing process is more advantageous than polishing in terms of surface finish and tribological characteristics.
In this paper an evaluation of sequential ball end milling-burnishing process of a curvilinear surfaces has been presented by considering some technological and tribological aspects. During this study, a measurements of surface integrity indicators, as: surface topography, hardness and residual stresses were conducted on a machined sample. In addition, a ball-on-disc friction and wear tests of a machined samples were carried out. The effects of milling-burnishing process were compared with ones obtained after milling and polishing. The analysis of results involved the parametric, non-parametric and fractal analysis of surface topographies. It was found that application of burnishing process is more advantageous than polishing in terms of surface finish (almost 9-fold reduction of Sz parameter), as well as the tribological characteristics (almost two-fold reduction of volumetric wear rate).
