Summary: This systematic review and network meta-analysis investigated the effects of different exercise categories on visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and other anthropometric variables in individuals with overweight and obesity. The results showed that aerobic exercise, resistance training, aerobic exercise combined with resistance training, and high-intensity interval training were beneficial for reducing VAT. Among these, aerobic exercise with vigorous intensity and high-intensity interval training were considered the most effective interventions for improving VAT and other body indicators.

Summary: BMI does not provide information about the relative size of adipose tissue depots, while SAD is associated with visceral fat accumulation, which may contribute to the estimation of cardiometabolic risk. SADHtR is more strongly associated with intermediary predictors of cardiometabolic disease.

Summary: In this study, diet was found to be the most important factor in reducing visceral adiposity in both short and long term. Exercise was shown to be crucial in maintaining muscle mass and decreasing visceral fat deposits over a longer period. Additionally, the combination of diet and exercise was found to enhance the effects of each intervention.

Summary: This study found that intraperitoneal VAT (IVAT) and retroperitoneal VAT (RVAT) are differently associated with the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) and its components. IVAT area index was independently associated with MS and its components, while RVAT area index was only associated with the blood pressure component.

Summary: The study compared the proteomic profiles of mature adipocytes from different adipose tissue depots, with findings showing that subcutaneous adipocytes are more active in vesicular transport, secretion, and lipid metabolism, while visceral adipocytes have higher protein expression related to mitochondrial energy metabolism and translational or biosynthetic activity.

Summary: The metabolic syndrome is a cluster of dangerous heart attack risk factors. This study compares the dysfunction of obesity-associated white adipose tissue (WAT) between women with severe obesity with or without metabolic syndrome. The results show that women with metabolic syndrome exhibit greater adipocyte hypertrophy, increased fibrosis, and higher expression of macrophage and hypoxia markers in subcutaneous adipose tissue.

Summary: Obesity is linked to metabolic disorders and increased cardiovascular risk. The presence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) affects the protein composition in adipose tissue and serum, leading to changes in systemic markers and dysregulation of metabolic pathways in visceral adipose tissue (VAT).

Summary: This pilot study discovered significant differences in metabolic profiles between fatigued and non-fatigued survivors of colorectal cancer, with the enrichment of two pathways (glutathione metabolism and D-glutamine and D-glutamate metabolism) associated with ATP production regulation and cellular energy, potentially providing new therapeutic targets for decreasing fatigue in cancer survivors.

Summary: The study revealed that spouses of transplant recipients had significantly higher unmet care needs, anxiety, and depression levels compared to the recipients themselves. Factors related to spouses' unmet needs included being male, having higher anxiety levels, and having partners with higher unmet needs. Healthcare professionals should address the needs of both recipients and spouses, and provide disease-specific information and resources to spouses with potentially higher unmet needs.

Summary: This study investigated patients' expectations, perceptions, and gaps in healthcare service quality from the perspective of nurse practitioner practice in Taiwan. Findings revealed that patients had high expectations, moderate perceptions, and significant gaps in reliable responsiveness and empathy. The study also found that patients with greater symptom severity and longer in-hospital stays had larger HSQ gaps, while patients transferred from the emergency department had smaller gaps.

Summary: The aim of this study was to explore the process of resilience in individuals with colorectal cancer (CRC). The findings revealed that resilience is a dynamic three-phase process, including the impact of CRC, adaptation or maladaptation following CRC, and growth from CRC experience. Resilience strategies, avoidance behaviors, and passive waiting strategy were shown across the resilience process. Some individuals used resilience strategies to promote positive adjustment and develop their resilience process.

Summary: This study investigated the transfer rate and outcomes of patients who were eligible for transfer from overcrowded emergency departments in a medical center to regional hospitals in 2016. The results showed that the interhospital transfer did not significantly affect the total length of stay or in-hospital mortality of the patients. Despite the limitations of a small sample size, this healthcare delivery model may be applicable to other cities facing similar issues of ED overcrowding.
