Summary: Sarcopenia is a common finding in female breast cancer patients with a BMI lower than 30 kg/m(2). The prevalence of sarcopenia in breast cancer patients was found to be 13.9%. Sarcopenic breast cancer patients had significantly lower fat-free mass compared to non-sarcopenic breast cancer patients and the control group.

Summary: Autoimmune thyroid disease is a common comorbidity in autoimmune Addison disease (AAD). This study found that 48% of AAD patients had autoimmune thyroid disease, with 42% having autoimmune hypothyroidism. Among the patients diagnosed with autoimmune hypothyroidism, 20% had overt hypothyroidism, 73% had subclinical hypothyroidism, and 7% had normal thyroid function. A significant percentage of patients had negative thyroid peroxidase antibodies. The majority of patients were treated with levothyroxine, while a small percentage received combination therapy or no treatment.

The molecular links between thyroid autoimmunity and breast cancer remain uncertain.

DNA Methylation in Autoimmune Thyroid Disease

Summary: This review summarizes the current understanding of DNA methylation (DNAm) in autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD), highlighting differential DNAm in several genes implicated in AITD. However, further replication and functional studies are needed to support the causal roles of these differential DNAm in AITD pathogenesis. Additionally, the influence of thyroid hormones on DNAm and the confounding effects of reverse causation need to be considered. Recent studies suggest a potential mechanism for the association between iodine and AITD through differential DNAm patterns in candidate genes. The research focus is shifting towards epigenome-wide studies to elucidate the role of DNAm in AITD and identify diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic targets.

Results showed that 54.8% of patients without prior thyroid dysfunction developed AITD, with Graves' disease being the most common. Interestingly, the majority of GD cases showed a fluctuating course.

Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio and Platelet-to-Lymphocyte Ratio in Twins Compared with Singletons

Timing of delivery and blood pressure cut-off in chronic hypertension during pregnancy: State of art and new proposals

Summary: This study compared elective delivery and expectant management in pregnant women with chronic hypertension, finding randomized trials favored expectant management while observational studies favored induction of labor. Retrospective cohort studies on pregnant women with blood pressure lower than 140/90 mm Hg consistently showed increased risk of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, gestational diabetes mellitus, and small-for-gestational-age neonates.

Hispanic race is a risk factor for COVID-19 during pregnancy: data from an urban New York City hospital

Summary: Limited studies have been conducted on the factors that predispose asymptomatic pregnant women to COVID-19 positivity. The results of a retrospective study on 263 asymptomatic pregnant women revealed that Hispanic race was a significant risk factor for COVID-19 infection during pregnancy. However, no variables were found to be significantly associated with COVID-19 positivity in the multivariate analysis. This study suggests that the cultural and socioeconomic factors of Hispanic women living in the community may contribute to a higher infection rate.

Summary: Preeclampsia is a disease characterized by the development of hypertension after the 20th week of pregnancy, often accompanied by proteinuria or organ dysfunction. As delivery is the only definitive treatment, preeclampsia remains a leading cause of preterm birth and perinatal mortality. Strategies to reduce adverse outcomes focus on early prevention, surveillance, and intervention. Predictive models combining various factors have been developed to accurately identify women at higher risk. This review discusses the current and future perspectives on preeclampsia, including its pathogenesis, risk factors, clinical features, screening and prevention strategies, novel therapies, and healthcare management.

This study found evidence of poor pregnancy outcomes in patients with blood pressure below the accepted cut-off of 140/90 mmHg, indicating the need for interventions to reduce the risk of hypertensive disorders in pregnancies with blood pressures ranging from 120-139/80-89 mmHg.

Summary: This study explored the association between neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) measured during pregnancy, and the occurrence of stillbirth (SB). The study found that a PLR higher than 156.4 in the first trimester can reliably exclude the possibility of SB later during pregnancy. Lower platelet and higher lymphocyte levels may be related to an early inflammatory process. Larger studies are needed to confirm the results.
