Summary: This study tracked hospitalizations and emergency room visits of patients with spinal cord injuries over a 1-year period and found urological causes to be the primary driver for medical care. Urinary tract infections were the most common reason for admission. Factors such as indwelling catheter use, clean intermittent catheterization, physical health scores, diminished hand function, and unemployment were associated with an increased risk of urology related hospitalization/emergency room visits.

Summary: Public health measures implemented to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the worldwide transmission of endemic respiratory viruses such as RSV, as well as other typical, seasonal, and viral respiratory pathogens. German pediatric hospitals monitored RSV cases from October 18, 2021 to March 31, 2022 using a newly established national Clinician-Led Reporting System.

Summary: Comparison between the emergency department presentations of Syrian refugee children and resident children in Istanbul, Turkey, reveals that refugee children have higher acuity conditions, younger age, higher rates of hospitalization, and longer NICU stays. Strategies to improve access to preventive healthcare services for young refugee children should be implemented to reduce the reliance on emergency and inpatient care and improve health outcomes.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the medical history of 198 patients with chronic hypoparathyroidism (HP), and found that emergency room visits and hospitalizations were not primarily caused by HP-related acute symptoms, but rather by comorbidities and chronic organ damages. The causes of death in the studied group were also unrelated to HP.

Summary: Elevations in hs-cTnT and NT-proBNP are associated with higher risk of serious adverse events (SAEs) in hypertensive patients. The impact of blood pressure treatment on SAE risk varies across different biomarker categories, which may help identify individuals with more favorable benefit-harm profiles for intensive blood pressure lowering.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of dietary phosphorus supplementation on the replacement of fishmeal with Clos-tridium autoethanogenum protein (CAP) in the diet of L. vannamei. The results showed that moderate phosphorus supplementation could improve histology, enhance immune response, and increase disease resistance and antioxidant capacity in shrimp, while excessive phosphorus could damage gut histology and increase the abundance of harmful bacteria.

Summary: This study compared the risk of psychiatric hospitalizations and emergency department visits between individuals using lipophilic and hydrophilic statins and those not using statins. It found that patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder prescribed either type of statin had a lower risk of hospitalization or ED visits compared to non-users, with hydrophilic statins showing a significantly lower risk of hospitalization.

Summary: This retrospective study evaluated clinically relevant adverse events (AEs) experienced by children with T-ALL/LLy during early intensive chemotherapy. The results indicated that significant AEs, especially infectious AEs, are common during induction and consolidation therapy. Patients treated with dexamethasone during induction had higher rates of nonsepsis infection and/or sepsis during consolidation compared to those who received prednisone.
