The study showed that APS can modulate the intestinal microbiota and activate the immune response to protect grass carp from bacterial infection.
The immunomodulatory effect of Astragalus polysaccharides (APS) has been revealed in aquatic animals. However, the fundamental mechanisms in grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus) are not well characterized. This research has explored the impacts of APS on immune response, gut microbes and transcriptome profiles of grass carp. The eight week feeding trial was executed with the basal diet (Control) complemented with APS at diverse concentrations (0 and 1 g/kg). Firstly, the enzyme activity assay results indicated that dietary APS could considerably increase the activities of antioxidant and digestive enzymes. Furthermore, gut microbial analysis data showed that the intestinal microbial diversity and composition of grass carp were altered at the phylum level between the Control and APS groups. Additionally, beta-diversity revealed that APS had influenced the bacterial assembly in the foregut and hindgut of grass carp. The transcriptomic profiling was used to further explicate the mechanism fundamental to the effects of APS on molecular evidences in the intestines; the results revealed that the APS could activate immune related genes. Further study results revealed that the immune response stimulated by APS, the mRNA expression levels of TNF-alpha, IL-1 beta, CSF, ILF2, DCLK1 and TAGAP genes were all significantly up-regulated after dietary APS supplementation. Finally, histopathological changes of different tissues and bacterial load levels in the liver between the A. hydrophila and A. hydrophila + APS groups illustrated that APS protected the tissues under A. hydrophila challenge. Overall, the present study revealed that APS could modulate the intestinal microbiota and activate the immune response to protect the grass carp from bacterial infection.

A Biomimetic Tooth Replicate That Is Hard, Damage-Tolerant, and Self-Healable

Brominated Butyl Rubber Anticorrosive Coating and its Self-healing Behaviors

Summary: This study incorporated 4-tert-butylpyridine into brominated butyl rubber polymer networks to form a reversible ionic bond, preparing a robust self-healing anticorrosive coating. The TBP-BIIR coating showed a protection efficiency of over 94% in strong acid, strong base, and high salt solutions, with a repaired efficiency exceeding 89%. It demonstrated excellent self-healing abilities.

AgNPs-Triggered Seed Metabolic and Transcriptional Reprogramming Enhanced Rice Salt Tolerance and Blast Resistance

Summary: Seeds are facing more difficult conditions due to climate change. Enhancing seeds' stress resilience is crucial for reducing yield loss. In this study, researchers propose using ROS-generating nanoparticles (NPs) to stimulate seeds, which can enhance their stress resilience by triggering stress/immune responses. The results show that pre-stimulated seeds with AgNPs exhibit faster germination, increased seedling vigor, biomass, and root length compared to seeds treated with hydropriming. Additionally, the researchers found that AgNPs stimulation activated stress signaling and defense-related pathways in rice seeds, and this stress memory can last weeks, providing protection to rice seedlings against salt stress and rice blast fungus. This simple nanobiostimulant-based strategy can contribute to sustainable agriculture by maintaining agricultural production and reducing the use of pesticides.

Phenothiazine-Based LSD1 Inhibitor Promotes T-Cell Killing Response of Gastric Cancer Cells

Summary: In this study, the antipsychotic drug chlorpromazine was identified as an LSD1 inhibitor, and a series of chlorpromazine derivatives were synthesized. Among them, compound 3s showed the most potent inhibitory activity. Compound 3s inhibited LSD1 at the cellular level, downregulated PD-L1 expression in gastric cancer cells, and enhanced T-cell killing response. Animal studies confirmed that compound 3s can inhibit gastric cancer cell proliferation without significant toxicity in immunocompetent mice. These findings suggest that compound 3s may serve as a lead compound for further development to activate T-cell immunity in gastric cancer.

The impact of grandchild care on depressive symptoms of grandparents in China: The mediating effects of generational support from children

Study on recognition of coal and gangue based on multimode feature and image fusion

Summary: In this study, a coal gangue recognition method based on modal fusion of RGB and infrared is proposed to improve the accuracy of coal gangue recognition and the recognition of mixed gangue rate. A fully mechanized coal gangue transportation test bed is built, and RGB and infrared images are obtained. Classification networks including AlexNet, VGG-16, and ResNet-18 are constructed with modal feature fusion. The results show that ResNet networks achieve higher classification accuracy on RGB and infrared image data compared to AlexNet and VGG-16 networks. The feasibility of the modal fusion method in coal gangue recognition is verified with a recognition rate of 97.92%.

Diet-egg relationships and equilibration of fatty acids in eggs of southern flounder, Paralichthys lethostigma
